Why this job matters

As a Utility Cost Management Lead for Energy and Water, you will be responsible for overseeing BT's utility cost forecasting and payment management, with a particular focus on complex electricity charges. You will lead on energy and water cost modelling and stakeholder engagement to ensure accurate forecasting, robust governance, and timely processing of high‑value payments.

You will join a small, highly skilled energy team within Network Finance, focused on managing BT's electricity and water costs and forecasting. Working alongside around four other energy specialists and closely with finance peers, you'll collaborate with senior stakeholders across Networks and the wider business, including regular exposure to C‑suite level discussions. This role offers the opportunity to shape BT's non‑commodity cost and price forecasting, influence strategic decisions on energy spend, and work in a collaborative environment where analytical insight and industry expertise are highly valued.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead end-to-end utility cost management for BT's UK energy and water portfolio, with a strong focus on electricity.
  • Develop and maintain robust cost and price forecasts, particularly for non-commodity elements (network, policy, and renewable charges).
  • Analyse and interpret large data sets using tools such as Excel and other analytical platforms to build and refine forecasting and cost models.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and partners to ensure accurate billing, timely payment processing, and effective cost control.
  • Monitor regulatory and industry developments in energy and water, ensuring BT's cost models and assumptions reflect current legislation and market drivers.

Skills and Experiences

  • Proven experience in the UK electricity (and ideally gas/water) industry, preferably in a B2B/large commercial utilities or energy retail environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrable experience working with large data sets and using tools such as Excel and/or data modelling/visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI, Python or similar).
  • Deep understanding of how electricity costs are constructed, especially non‑commodity / network / policy charges, and how these flow through to end‑user tariffs and bills.
  • Experience in cost forecasting and/or pricing within an energy or utilities context.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with confidence engaging external partners and internal senior stakeholders, including at C‑suite level.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex cost drivers and market dynamics in a clear, concise way.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Benefits

  • Annual On target bonus 10% (personal and company multipliers)
  • BT Pension scheme; minimum 5% employee contribution, BT contribution 10%
  • Life Assurance
  • Direct share scheme
  • Exclusive colleague discounts on our latest and greatest BT broadband packages
