Job Description

About the role

If you enjoy solving difficult technical problems, building software, and finding innovative ways to improve quality across complex systems, we'd love to hear from you.

We're growing our engineering teams and recruiting Software Developers in Test (SDETs) at all experience levels to help deliver technology that supports mission-critical services.

As an SDET, you'll combine software engineering and quality engineering skills to build the tools, frameworks and automation capabilities that help teams deliver secure, resilient and reliable technology. You'll work closely with software engineers, architects, delivery teams and customers to ensure quality is designed into solutions from the very beginning of the development lifecycle.

Whether you're developing automated test frameworks, improving CI/CD pipelines, validating complex integrations, analysing system behaviour or creating tooling that helps teams move faster with confidence, you'll be helping deliver technology that genuinely matters.

With a background is in software engineering, automation, test engineering, DevOps, platform engineering or site reliability, you'll have opportunities to grow your career within a broad engineering community.

We don't see quality as something that's added at the end of development. We believe quality is engineered into products from the start.

Every engineering team wants to move quickly. The challenge is doing so without compromising trust, resilience or reliability. Our Software Developers in Test help teams achieve exactly that, building the automation, tooling and engineering practices that enable mission-critical services to evolve with confidence.

Note: This role requires eligibility for UK Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. As a result, applicants must typically be sole British citizens and have lived in the UK continuously for the previous 10 years, subject to UK Government vetting requirements.

What you’ll be doing

Above all, we're looking for engineers who are naturally curious, enjoy solving difficult problems and are passionate about improving quality through software engineering.

Depending on your skills, interests and experience, you may:

Software Engineering

  • Develop resilient, maintainable and well-tested software that supports both products and quality engineering capabilities.
  • Design, build and maintain tools, frameworks and services that improve automation and delivery confidence.
  • Participate in peer reviews and contribute to engineering standards, best practices and continuous improvement.

Quality Engineering

  • Design and implement automated approaches that validate functionality, performance, reliability and resilience.
  • Help identify quality risks early and support teams in delivering trusted software solutions.
  • Investigate defects, analyse system behaviour and contribute to root-cause analysis activities.
  • Support testing activities across the software delivery lifecycle, from development through to release

Automation & Platform Engineering

  • Build and enhance CI/CD capabilities that enable reliable and repeatable software delivery.
  • Develop automation that improves efficiency, reduces manual effort and increases engineering confidence.
  • Contribute to test environments, infrastructure and supporting platforms used across engineering teams.

Collaboration & Growth

  • Work closely with software engineers, solution architects and operational stakeholders to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Share knowledge, mentor colleagues and help develop modern quality engineering practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve ways of working and contribute to a culture of continuous learning.

No two careers in this space look identical, and that's part of what makes it interesting.

You might be a good fit if you're naturally curious about questions such as:

• How do you build confidence into software before it reaches production?
• How can automation help engineering teams move faster without sacrificing quality?
• How do you prove that a mission-critical service is ready for the real world?
• What hidden risks exist inside complex technology environments?
• How do modern engineering teams balance quality, reliability and delivery speed?
• How can software engineering and quality engineering work together to improve outcomes?
• What does great quality engineering look like in the age of AI?
• How can I continue developing my technical skills while working on technology that genuinely matters?

You don't need to have all the answers already. We're looking for people with curiosity, enthusiasm, strong engineering fundamentals and a willingness to learn

Essential Skills / Experience

We know great engineers don't always fit neatly into a checklist. If your experience aligns with many of the areas below, we'd encourage you to apply.

• Experience developing software, automation, tooling or engineering solutions.
• Understanding of software engineering principles and modern development practices.
• Experience working within Agile software delivery environments.
• Ability to analyse complex technical problems and develop practical solutions.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful outcomes.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Commitment to continuous learning and engineering excellence.
• Ability to obtain and maintain UK Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance.

Desirable Skills / Experience

We're particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Test automation and quality engineering.
• Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD).
• Performance, reliability or resilience engineering.
• Platform engineering and developer tooling.
• Cloud-native or distributed systems.
