Job Description

Location: Manchester, London, Bristol, Birmingham, or Belfast

Closing date: 20/10/2026

Why this job matters

Sitting within our Wholesale Commercial team, you’ll lead the design, delivery and ongoing improvement of our Payplan framework and wider sales incentives. Your aim: make sure every incentive supports our business strategy, encourages the right sales behaviours, and delivers great outcomes for customers and lasting commercial value.

You’ll work closely with Sales, Finance, HR and Commercial colleagues to keep our commission schemes clear, fair and consistently applied, backed by strong controls, accurate payments and transparent decisions.

As the go-to business partner for Sales leaders on all things commission and incentives, you’ll use commercial and financial insight to judge what’s working, shape decisions and spot new opportunities. You’ll also drive the simplification and automation of our Payplan processes, while leading and developing a team that delivers an efficient, trusted and high-quality service.

What you’ll be doing

Payplan Strategy & Transformation

  • Design and evolve Payplan and other incentive schemes to support commercial goals and growth
  • Turn business strategy into incentives that drive the right sales behaviours and customer outcomes
  • Lead simplification, automation and transformation, using benchmarks and insight to improve our incentive framework
  • Track scheme performance, cost, ROI and risks, and act on opportunities to improve

Governance, Delivery & Performance

  • Own Payplan governance, policies and controls, making sure schemes are applied consistently and compliantly
  • Lead the assurance approach to validate claims, manage risk and ensure accurate, timely commission payments
  • Keep clear audit trails and approval processes for payments, commission decisions and scheme changes
  • Provide reporting, insight and recommendations to support better decisions
  • Improve data quality, reporting accuracy and operational performance

Stakeholder Engagement & Influence

  • Partner with Finance, HR and Commercial to shape and deliver effective incentive schemes
  • Act as the main business partner for Sales, and the first point of contact for commission queries, escalations and governance forums
  • Communicate plans, changes and outcomes clearly to build understanding, confidence and buy-in

The skills you’ll need

Essential skills

  • Proven experience leading the design, delivery and governance of sales incentive and commission schemes, balancing commercial goals, sales motivation and customer outcomes (ideally in B2B)
  • Trusted relationship builder who influences stakeholders across Sales, Finance, HR and Commercial and explains complex ideas clearly
  • Clear direction, coaching and development of a capable, engaged and high-performing team

Desirable skills

  • Strong commercial awareness, using data to analyse sales performance, spot trends and support decisions
  • Knowledge of Salesforce or other sales performance management systems

Experience you'll bring

  • Leading or managing sales commission, incentive or bonus schemes, ideally in B2B
  • Designing, implementing and governing incentive programmes with Sales, Finance, HR and Commercial
  • Solid understanding of sales performance measures, target setting, commission calculations and governance
  • Influencing sales leaders and handling complex commission queries and escalations
  • Using commercial and financial analysis to assess schemes and drive improvements in governance, assurance, processes and automation
  • Leading, coaching and developing a team

Our working model

Hybrid policy: Three in the office, two remote

BT Group is the UK’s leading communications group and the holding company behind some of the country’s most recognised brands – including BT, EE, Openreach and Plusnet. Our purpose is as simple as it is ambitious: we connect for good. Our customers include consumers, small, medium and large businesses, public sector organisations and other communications providers.

BT Group’s role is about setting direction, unlocking value and creating the conditions for our brands and businesses to thrive.

Having come through the most capital-intensive phase of our fibre investment, our focus now is on what comes next – simplifying how we operate, using technology and AI to work smarter, and organising ourselves to serve customers better and grow sustainably. Group teams shape strategy, policy, brand, capital allocation and transformation, helping the whole organisation perform at its best.

We have a singular culture that unites all our people: we are customer-first challengers, who are committed, clear and connected. These behaviours unite us as one team to deliver for our colleagues, our customers, our stakeholders and the country.
