About the role

Join the Networks Data & AI team as a Data Science & AI Professional and help turn complex network data into practical products, insights and services that improve decision-making across BT Group.

You’ll take a hands-on role in designing and building scalable data products using machine learning and artificial intelligence. Your work will support areas including live network monitoring, network investment, predictive maintenance and the development of services that improve customers’ day-to-day experience.

Working alongside data and AI engineers, senior engineering managers, product owners and architects, you’ll translate complex business needs into robust solutions. You’ll also collaborate with teams across BT Group and Research, helping to shape the data capabilities that underpin the future of BT’s fixed and mobile networks.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design and build innovative data products that turn complex business and network needs into scalable solutions.
  • Extract and analyse large datasets using data science and AI techniques, generating insights that support business decisions and new products and services.
  • Develop and apply machine learning and AI models to areas including network investment and predictive maintenance.
  • Identify opportunities to solve complex problems and create value across fixed and mobile networks.
  • Work closely with data and AI engineers to integrate machine learning models into data pipelines and platforms.
  • Champion effective approaches to data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence and analytics.
  • Monitor relevant technology and market developments, sharing useful knowledge and practices with colleagues.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders through data visualisation and reporting.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Strong practical capability in mathematics, statistics and data science, including analysing very large datasets and performing complex statistical transformations.
  • Experience using Python or R and SQL, together with common data science libraries, to develop analytical solutions that address real business needs.
  • Applied understanding of machine learning, generative AI and large language models, with experience using these technologies to deliver measurable value.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Experience working with cloud technologies such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Strong problem-solving and data storytelling skills, including evaluating problems from different perspectives and explaining complex findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of data visualisation techniques and reporting frameworks used to build a clear case for change.
  • Experience collaborating with data and AI engineers to deploy models through data pipelines and platforms.
  • Understanding of telecommunications networks and products, including areas such as Wi-Fi standards, broadband, voice, television services, device management or relevant industry measures.
  • Awareness of current developments in data science, machine learning operations, artificial intelligence and analytics.
  • Experience working collaboratively across engineering, product, architecture, leadership and research teams.
