About the role

The mobile core design team defines the critical mobile data services that our customers rely on. To achieve this, the team engineers platforms with names known to the industry as AMF, SMF, UPF, PCF, NRF, UDM, UDR and 4G equivalents. This role supports the Senior Manager in optimising aspects of the core such as its performance, dimensioning, resilience and security. To do this requires collaboration with many other people, such as platform design authorities and vendor engineers. The results directly impact customers.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supports the development of deep technical and repeatable solutions that achieve customer requirements driving positive outcomes.
  • Supports business stakeholders’ understanding of capabilities.
  • Supports the translation of requirements into product configuration and implementation.
  • Executes work in delivering initiatives that are a part of the company's overall strategy.
  • Supports in the implementation of ways to improve working processes within the area of solution architecture.

Essential Skills / Experience

You’ll have the desire and ability to understand how a technical system works underneath, and put this to use in designing new services and platforms to perform optimally.

You can express your thoughts clearly and concisely in writing, without help from AI. When writing you are thoughtful towards the type of audience. Often, to convey a complex technical interaction accurately, drawing diagrams will be necessary.
You’re able to verbally communicate complex issues clearly and concisely, including to non-technical people.
You’ll have a basic understanding of the following technologies, combined with the ability to independently learn more depth in particular areas as and when you need to.

• Evolved Packet Core (EPC)
• 5G Core (5GC)
• Openstack
• Kubernetes
• HTTP, DNS and IPv6
• Data visualisation tools e.g. Grafana

You can use AI to accelerate your work.

Experience you’d be expected to have;
Mandatory
• Experience of at least two of the six bullets in the skills section.
• A technical role where you needed to demonstrate the ability to learn an unfamiliar technology, and were able to do so independently.
Preferred
• Experience of most of the bullets listed in the skills section.
