About the role

Delivery Performance exists to assure the success of the Digital portfolio by strengthening quality and predictability through clear methodology, outcome measurement, and continuous improvement. It builds organisational memory of effective best‑practice standards, improves and simplifies how teams deliver work, and aid programmes with delivery excellence and assurance to give transparent oversight of portfolio health and capacity, and address risks before they become issues.

The role – The Metrics Programme Lead drives the Delivery Metrics agenda for Digital, assuring the performance of the Digital Delivery Portfolio and improving the end‑to‑end flow of value from concept to market through standardised measurement and data‑driven insight. The role owns and runs BT’s core delivery measurement standards, including Earned Value metrics, engine‑room delivery metrics and targeted compliance and improvement indicators, ensuring consistent, reliable and transparent reporting across Digital. Through rigorous analysis, structured measurement, and continuous refinement, the role enables clear visibility of performance, historical trends, risks and progress across the portfolio, steering attention and action in the right places to cushion Digital delivery outcomes.

Why it’s important – High quality, standardised delivery measurement is critical to identifying bottlenecks, enabling proactive intervention to assure business outcomes, and strengthening the predictability, pace and efficiency of Digital delivery. By shining a light on emerging risks and what is and isn’t working, the Metrics Programme Lead provides the insight needed for informed decision-making across Digital and Group leadership. This role underpins the continual uplift of BT’s delivery capability, improving accessibility, intuitiveness, data integrity and automation within reporting, and ultimately helping BT deliver value to customers faster and more reliably.

What you’ll be doing

  • Develops the detailed design of the Delivery Performance Metrics Programme, ensuring like for like comparison and actionable reporting that aid in-quarter decision-making, proactive resolution of risks and that Programme Leads and BT leadership teams' trust
  • Holds a deep understanding of the Delivery Performance Metrics programme and its source data, tools and associated methods, identifying pitfalls in data integrity and meaningfulness and building and delivering plans to mitigate them
  • Recommends, consults and operationalises key new metrics, facilitating alignment across complex and diverse stakeholder groups, balancing off necessary standardisation with local empowerment variance in service of the Delivery Performance mission
  • Acts as guardian of the Metrics Programme integrity and effectiveness, uncovering, evaluating and driving to resolve potential weaknesses that impact meaningfulness or incentivise poor behaviours
  • Ensures performance against key delivery metrics is reliably tracked, maintaining past trends, and producing data-driven, actionable insight and business reporting for Digital and Group stakeholders up to C-Suite level
  • Manages continuous improvement of the Delivery Performance metrics programme, including accessibility, intuitiveness, data integrity, and automation[TG1.1], including use of AI
  • Coordinates a team using a variety of data analytics technologies and techniques including but not limited to data processing and engineering, statistical analysis, data visualisation, machine learning, simulation and optimisation techniques.
  • Provides insight into the development of the Data Analytics strategy and solutions portfolio through keeping up to date on the evolving technology and industry trends in the data analytics landscape.
  • Coordinates the development of data visualisations, including reports, dashboards, and analyses to distribute data insights in an easily digestible manner to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Champions, continuously develops and shares with team knowledge on emerging trends and changes in data analytics.
  • Coaches talent, and manages others, to develop capabilities and ensure performance through upskilling, development and recruitment.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Stakeholder Management: ability to manage complex and diverse stakeholder groups
  • AI proficiency: Applies AI and automation tools to analyse data at scale, uncover deeper insights, make predictions, and streamline analytical workflows for faster, more accurate decision-making.
  • Data Analysis: Collects and interprets data to uncover patterns and trends
  • Statistical analysis: Uses mathematical models to quantify relationships between data points and make predictions.
  • Data storytelling: Effectively communicates insights from a dataset using narratives and visualisations.
  • Data quality: Employs processes, methods, and technologies to ensure the quality of the data meets specific business requirements.
  • Business process improvement: Analyses business processes and workflows within the organisation and identifies new approaches to redesign business activities or optimise performance, quality and speed of processes.
  • Business analysis: Analyses current business state within the context of future expectations, determines whether new business strategies are needed to address existing issues or meet new needs and estimates the level of effort to enhance or expand current business strategies.
  • Data decision: Models data with the aim of assisting the strategic decision-making process.
  • Data dashboards: Tracks, analyses, and displays key performance indicators, metrics, and data points.
  • Business intelligence reporting: Uses a Business Intelligence tool to prepare and analyse data to find and share actionable insights.
  • Trends analysis: Compares business data over time to identify any consistent results or trends.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Previous experience leading measurement frameworks to inform strategic and leadership decision making in complex organisations.
  • Deep understanding of delivery methodologies and the software development lifecycle
  • Experience managing diverse and complex stakeholder groups
  • Experience working with Qlik and Jira desirable
