About the role

The Data & Customer Value Tribe Architect provides strategic and technical leadership for the data landscape, ensuring data capabilities, platforms, products and information domains are aligned to Customer Value Management (CVM) objectives and wider enterprise strategy.

The role is responsible for defining and driving the data architecture roadmap, enabling the customer, commercial, product and operational data capabilities required to improve customer understanding, personalisation, retention, cross-sell, upsell and customer lifetime value. Working closely with business, product and engineering teams, this role ensures that architectural decisions, delivery priorities and investment choices balance business value, platform modernisation, data quality and long-term strategic outcomes.

As the architecture authority within this space, the role ensures alignment with enterprise architecture standards while driving the adoption of reusable data patterns, trusted data products and modern data engineering practices. This role is responsible for the architectural governance, technical debt, data risks and non-functional requirements, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, cost-effective and fit for future analytics, AI and decisioning capabilities. Through strong stakeholder engagement and cross-domain collaboration, the role enables consistent, customer-centric data capabilities across the organisation, influences strategic investment decisions, and ensures we deliver sustainable business and customer value through data-driven outcomes.

What you’ll be doing


• Define and drive the Customer Value Management (CVM) data strategy, target architecture runway and input into the future-state data landscape, aligned to business objectives, customer outcomes and enterprise strategy.
• Lead the evolution of customer, product, commercial and operational data capabilities required to support acquisition, retention, cross-sell, upsell, churn reduction and customer lifetime value growth.
• Work closely with Product, Engineering and Business stakeholders to ensure data architecture supports both strategic outcomes and delivery priorities.
• Shape epics, features and delivery roadmaps, ensuring data dependencies, architecture risks and opportunities are identified early.
• Balance business value, technical debt, data quality improvement and platform modernisation when recommending investment priorities.
• Align roadmaps across the wider Enterprise Data teams.
• Own the architecture, maturity and roadmap for data capabilities and information domains across the BT Business.
• Ensure consistency with BT-wide data architecture principles, information models and business capabilities.
• Drive alignment between customer, commercial, product and operational data domains to support end-to-end customer journeys and CVM outcomes.
• Establish clear ownership, governance and lifecycle management of critical data assets.
• Collaborate across the organisation to identify opportunities for shared data capabilities, data products and common information models.
• Drive consistency and reuse of customer, product and commercial data capabilities.
• Ensure local delivery decisions contribute towards enterprise data architecture objectives.
• Partner with business owners, product teams, analysts and engineers to understand data requirements and delivery priorities.
• Define the architectural runway to support future CVM, analytics, AI and decisioning capabilities.
• Provide guidance on strategic versus tactical solutions, ensuring delivery teams make informed architectural decisions.
• Drive high standards of data architecture, engineering quality, governance and documentation.
• Own the technical debt backlog and recommend remediation priorities for the data domain.
• Promote modern data engineering practices, automation, observability and data quality improvements.• Ensure data platforms, pipelines and analytical capabilities are scalable, maintainable and aligned to enterprise standards to support current and future business demand.• Drive adoption of cloud-native data capabilities, modern data platforms, event-driven architectures and reusable data services.• Define and govern reusable data architecture patterns, frameworks and standards.• Promote the development of trusted, reusable data products that accelerate delivery across:

Essential Skills / Experience

• Srong experience in a senior architecture role.
• Very strong stakeholder management experience from junior developer through to CEO.
• Experience creating roadmaps for a “domain” that can tell both the technical, commercial and business impacts.

Desirable Skills / Experience

• Preferred: Experience of Agile planning, SAFE framework
• Preferred: TOGAF certified
