About the role

BMT are looking for an experienced Author to become an integral member of the Technical Information and Documentation Services team.
The main duties of the role would include providing authoring services to technical documentation for our customers providing best practice between customers. The role will involve contact with customers and engaging with project management to ensure that work meets the customers’ expectations as well as being delivered to cost and time.

In terms of location, we have offices in Bath, Fareham, Plymouth and Weymouth, and we are happy to explore flexible and hybrid working arrangements. Please note that travel to customer sites or to attend meetings may be required. This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.

About you

Ideally you will be computer literate Language with excellent MS Word and Excel skills and educated to GCSE level or higher in English. Authoring experience in Framemaker, Arbortext and Adobe would be advantageous but not essential. Any engineering experience would be beneficial too.

In addition, experience in understanding of MoD technical documentation management, format and configuration procedures or similar large data bases would also be beneficial.
The ideal candidate would have experience of the UK MoD or industry technical documentation types and common standards such as S1000D. We can provide training on specific standards or other author related skills such as Simplified Technical English. We work in a team model, often across sites, so the ability to work well in a team and convey information effectively is important.

This role will require full UK security clearance and you should have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.
