Our Environmental team are currently looking for a Senior Principal Environmental Approvals Consultant to provide expertise, ingenuity and judgement in the water and environment field. In this role you will help grow the business through strategic business development and promotions. You will also act as Project Manager and/or technical expert and work with a multi-disciplinary team to delivery high quality environmental projects, with a focus on environmental impact assessments and regulatory approvals.
The Senior Principal Consultant will:
- Have expertise in their field with strong technical capability in environmental investigations, assessment, planning and approvals.
- Provide strategic and statutory environmental advice to clients in a variety of sectors, with a focus on Coastal, Maritime Infrastructure and Mining.
- Build upon existing and develop new client relationships to further the BMT environment business.
- Provide technical advice, leadership and mentoring within the national BMT environment team.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs high quality and professional technical work involving considerable independence in approach, and a high degree of originality, ingenuity and judgement.
- Serves as a technical specialist in the application of advanced concepts, principles and methods in an assigned area.
- Gives technical advice to management and business delivery teams and directs or advises on use of equipment or material.
- Supervises and reviews the work of other consultants.
- Shares knowledge and acts as mentor within their area of expertise or across the business.
- Adheres to, and actively promotes, quality, safety and environmental procedures/standards.
- Liaises with clients, potential and current, for the purposes of work generation, service delivery, networking and business development.
- Prepare, review and submit proposals / tenders.
- Project manage a range of projects to scope and within time, cost and quality requirements.
- Contributing to thought leadership activities through their work and by regularly authoring papers, presenting at events, seminars and conferences, and social media posts.
- Maintains Chartered Status and Registration of an appropriate and recognised professional body.
May undertake specific technical tasks including but not limited to:
- Environmental policies and strategic advice.
- Scoping and identification of stakeholders and issues.
- Regulatory approvals.
- Environmental impact assessments.
- Environmental management plans.
- Environmental risk assessments, eg using ISO 31000.
- Environmental planning and auditing.

- Be Accountable for Work Winning Actions - Keep track of your business development activities and share outcomes and actions; support team goals for winning work and growing revenue; and ask clients for feedback to help us improve.
In addition to these duties, the post holder may be required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required, from time to time, to achieve the above role purpose.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Planning, Engineering or other relevant area of study.
- More than 20 years’ experience post-graduation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong technical background in environmental consulting.
- Existing client network in environmental policy, assessment and approvals.
- Experience working within a multi-site organisation.
- Experience working within the engineering or resources sector.
- Post-graduate qualifications in environmental management or other relevant area of study.
- Demonstrated business development skills.
- Strong organisation skills with attention to detail.
- Demonstrates initiative and takes a proactive approach to tasks.
- Flexible, team player.
- Client focused and commercially aware.
- Willingness for travel across WA, interstate, and internationally, to satisfy the requirements of projects and the position.
