About the role

The Human Factors Specialist will actively maintain recognised practitioner level knowledge in Human Factors and provide definitive and practitioner-level advice in their specialist area. You will support and promote the development and sharing of specialist knowledge within the organisation.

The key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Participate in technical projects. Provide overall control across the team or teams of technology-related SMEs, to ensure appropriate content, tone, brevity, consistency of deliverables.
  • Contribute to the definition, approach, facilitation, and satisfactory completion of medium scale projects (typically with direct business impact and firm deadlines).
  • Advise on appropriate methodologies and approaches to enable requirements to be satisfied. Develop solutions for clients, showing how needs will be met.
  • Apply Human Factors Integration to Defence engineering projects.
  • Contribute to Human Factors research projects.

In terms of location, this role will be a hybrid role with Bath, Fareham or Plymouth being the preferred office.

About you

You will be interested in providing Human Factors to UK MOD Land, Joint, Air, and Maritime platforms, including cyber security capabilities and of applying Human Reliability Assessment methods and techniques within a high hazard industry in order to support to Safety Cases. These skills will approximate to Level 3 or 4 on the SFIA 8 framework for User Experience.

You should have a degree or post graduate qualification in Human Factors or a related discipline, such as psychology, engineering, or industrial design and experience of planning and applying Human Factors Integration and Human Factors processes.

You should have excellent report writing and presentation skills.

It would be desirable if you hold CIEHF Registered Member status or equivalent or working towards chartership. Ideally you will also have experience of delivering Human Factors work packages within Defence or high hazard regulated industries and knowledge of relevant UK and international standards/guidance and their application.
