We are seeking an outstanding leader to head our Perth-based Environment team. This is an opportunity for a highly capable professional who combines strong technical expertise with proven people leadership and commercial insight.
The role is ideal for someone who enjoys building high-performing teams while remaining closely involved in technical consulting and client delivery. You will play a key role in developing people, strengthening our client relationships, winning work, and delivering high-quality environmental outcomes.
This position balances team leadership with direct technical contribution to projects and clients.
As WA Environment Team Leader, you will lead a talented team of specialists working across marine ecology, environmental planning and impact assessment, environmental approvals, and field data collection and analysis across both terrestrial and aquatic environments.
You will play an important role in shaping team capability, mentoring emerging leaders, and ensuring our Western Australian operations align with national and regional priorities.
Key Responsibilities
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on quality and client outcomes.
- Manage team capability, resourcing and workforce planning in coordination with Programme and Capability Managers.
- Drive team utilisation, project performance and commercial outcomes.
- Support knowledge sharing, professional development and collaboration across teams and locations.
- Promote diversity, equity and inclusion while supporting BMT’s sustainability values.
- Provide leadership in career development, wellbeing and performance management for team members.
- Contribute technically to project delivery and business development as a Principal Consultant.
- Support strategic work winning and maintain strong client relationships across the WA environment sector.
- Contribute to and shape broader APAC regional strategy and capability development.
About you
What You'll Bring:
- Proven experience leading and developing large technical teams in consulting, project or professional services environments.
- Strong people leadership skills with a track record of building engaged, high-performing teams.
- Commercially aware, with experience managing utilisation, project delivery and team performance.
- Demonstrated success in winning work and building trusted client relationships in the WA maritime, coastal or waterways environment sector.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to connect and motivate geographically dispersed teams.
- Technical expertise in one or more of theses areas:
- Field work planning, logistics, safety, instrumentation deployment, and data analysis.
- Ecology surveys and habitat assessments.
- Environmental and impact assessment reviews.
- Environmental planning and policy advice.
- GIS spatial analysis.
- Relevant degree in engineering, science, marine or environmental fields; postgrad in business, leadership or project management desirable.
