Job Description

We are the largest UK blood cancer charity and the biggest dedicated funder of research into all types of blood cancer. In the past 60 years, we’ve invested more than £500 million into blood cancer research which has had led to improved treatments and saved lives.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and play a key role in delivering our mission to beat blood cancer within a generation. The post holder will be an integral part of the research funding team and will be responsible for a portfolio of calls and restricted funding programmes as part of the charities broader research funding activity. You will lead on the organisation and coordination of funding panels for calls in your portfolio, support and monitor funded awards, and help ensure the outcomes of the research in your portfolio are effectively communicated to internal and external audiences.

Key Responsibilities

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Research Funding & Grant Management

  • Lead the funding rounds for a portfolio of calls and restricted funding programmes e.g., Matthew Wilson Multiple Myeloma Fund, including drafting of call details, development of application forms, guidance and processes, peer review and coordination of funding panels in line with Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) guidance.
  • Monitor the awards and maintain oversight of funded research in your portfolio, including stewardship of new applicants and existing grant holders, and ensure that optimal relationships are built and maintained.
  • Monitor the progress of awards in your portfolio and manage the approval process reports where required.
  • Manage the smooth running of the Clinical Trials Review Committee to provide biannual review of the charity’s portfolio of clinical trial activity.
  • Provide key information and insight to support funding cases for support or reporting to donors, Trusts and Foundations who may fund this work.
  • Provide expertise and insight to support external funding applications.

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to external stakeholders on the use of Grant Tracker, (our online application processing and grants management system).
  • Provide support when required to any of the research committees.
  • Contribute to the team being proactive and supportive, and working effectively and efficiently to achieve agreed objectives.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of strong internal relationships across the charity, working specifically with the Communications and Fundraising Team to provide updates, content and support income generation.
  • Undertake other work as required by the Research Funding Programme Manager and Deputy Director of Research

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Experience of research admin or management, can be either pre or post award or equivalent in managing delivery of research programmes
  • Experience of using Grant Tracker or similar electronic Grants Management System
  • Knowledge of medical research, or funding sector
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills for liaising with a wide range of stakeholders (internal and external) and committed to delivering an excellent, consistent and professional service
