Job Description

We are looking for a new Database Manager to join the team at Blood Cancer UK, the blood cancer research charity.

As part of the Technical Infrastructure and Data Team the Database Manager will provide the experience and expertise to shape the way Blood Cancer UK uses data to enrich quality, reporting and communications. As manager you will train and support the team and provide the framework and strategic vision to ensure new data structures, processes and infrastructure support the organisational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with external agencies to manage database technical infrastructure
  • Work closely with the Data Analysts to co-ordinate requirements and priorities
  • Co-ordinate database import and export processes
  • Ensure skills and knowledge are shared across the team
  • Develop coding structures to aid marketing reporting and financial analysis
  • Implement regular data integrity and hygiene checks with a goal of optimising supporter data quality
  • Work with third party data cleaners & the Fundraising Regulator to ensure supporter contact details are up to date
  • Manage a rolling programme of regular maintenance and data quality, including identification and amendment of duplicate records and data errors.
  • Analyse data issues so root cause analysis of defect may be understood, and work with colleagues to ensure causes are eliminated/minimised.
  • Share knowledge and experience with colleagues so that they are fully competent and confident to use the CRM system
  • Work with the Senior Data Officer to identify areas of improvement and restructuring within the CRM and plan and implement this work
  • Act as a support to staff on all matters relating to the database including queries and data analysis.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders both internal teams and external consultancies to deliver work to agreed timelines and specification

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Skills knowledge and experience

  • Experience of SQL and using it to manage data, creating imports and exports and perform updates, deletions and regular processes
  • Experienced in using Dynamics CRM within the charity sector
  • Experience of designing and creating integration processes
  • Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly
  • Ability to review and continually improve processes
  • Experience of working with users in troubleshooting and training
  • Understanding of relationship database structures
  • Experience of working with large data sets in Microsoft Excel
  • Highly organised and thrives in a busy environment with multiple deadlines
  • Finds imaginative solutions to business situations and have the capacity to recognise alternatives to traditional methods and approaches.
  • Ensures the successful achievement of results through the effective planning and management of resources, which are in line with the organisation’s strategic direction.
  • Experience of working in a Fundraising environment
  • Works collaboratively and shares information within and across Operational Effectiveness as well as wider organisation.
  • Builds and maintains good working relationships with colleagues to foster team spirit, commitment to the team and achievement of shared goals.
  • Excellent analytical and numeracy skills
  • Proficient in use of Windows-based software packages, including Word, Excel, email and internet
