Job Description:

This role supports the Supportability Engineering Team in delivering engineering analysis and applying supportability and maintainability principles across the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) and Future Combat Air Systems (FCAS). The position involves analysing design and in-service data to influence future through-life support strategies, providing supportability guidance to multidisciplinary engineering teams, and producing technical outputs in line with international standards. The role also includes assessing the impact of design changes on sustainment solutions and evaluating safety requirements and hazards that may affect long-term platform support and operational capability.

Core duties:

  • Assist the Supportability Engineering Team in the execution of engineering analysis and the application of supportability engineering principles to influence the design and future sustainment of GCAP platform and systems
  • Provide input, advice and feedback to systems discipline teams in regards to the supportability and maintainability considerations of the platform and systems
  • Process and analyse design data and current platform in-service data to help inform the future approach to through-life support with in the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) and Future Combat Air Systems (FCAS)
  • Generating technical supportability outputs in accordance with a variety of international standards and specifications
  • Assist with the overall assessment, management and control of change to supportability characteristics across various FCAS platform design concepts, and capture the subsequent impact on the through-life support solution requirements
  • Analysis of safety requirements and hazards that may influence the support solution

Essential Skills:

  • Experience within Support Engineering or Maintenance environments
  • Understanding of supportability and maintainability standards and processes
  • Aerospace supportability experience would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of through-life support principles for airborne systems
  • Awareness of Reliability, Maintainability and Testability (RMT)
  • Exposure to supportability methodologies including LORA, FMECA, LSA, ILS or RCM

The Through-Life Support Team:

An opportunity has arisen within the growing GCAP Through-Life Support, Supportability Engineering Team, providing opportunity to influence the Reliability, Maintainability and Supportability considerations of the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP).

This role will initially be focussed on the early lifecycle – influencing the “design for support” considerations of the core platform concepts and eliciting requirements for the support solution – and will evolve into the development and in-service phases of the programme, generating, managing and configuring the outputs of various supportability engineering activities using internationally recognised standards and methods.
