JOB PURPOSE
BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

The Technical Specialist – Aircraft Systems & Support provides specialised technical support for aircraft systems, support products, and Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) and related support equipment within the Typhoon Technical Support Service (TTSS). This role is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving the operational effectiveness of these systems, ensuring their availability and compliance with airworthiness and regulatory requirements. The position plays a key role in resolving Technical Requests (TRs), providing technical advice, and supporting the RSAF with the safe and effective maintenance of Typhoon systems and associated equipment and products.
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
Technical Expertise and Support:
- Provide expert technical advice and support for aircraft systems, support products, and AGE/support equipment, ensuring compliance with airworthiness standards.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to aircraft systems and support products, including AGE and other specialised support equipment.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for the maintenance and repair of these systems, ensuring optimal system performance and operational readiness.
Technical Request Management:
- Review, manage, and resolve Technical Requests (TRs) related to aircraft systems, AGE, and other support products, ensuring compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).
- Prioritise and ensure the timely resolution of TRs, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including the RSAF, KSA and UK-based teams, and IKIP.
- Ensure TR responses are accurate, complete, and aligned with approved data and airworthiness requirements.
System Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
- Monitor the performance and reliability of aircraft systems and AGE, identify trends, and report findings to management.
- Prepare technical reports that summarise TR activities, system performance, and recommended corrective actions to improve operational effectiveness.
Training & Development:
- Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and mentoring to RSAF personnel and Saudi National Technical Specialists to ensure technical proficiency in aircraft systems and AGE.
- Develop and deliver training programs aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of maintenance teams regarding system support and troubleshooting.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Establish and maintain effective communication with key stakeholders, including the RSAF, IKIP, AMO, and the UK-based In-Service Support Team (ISST), to ensure the timely resolution of technical issues and adherence to service contracts.
- Support the integration of aircraft systems with other support services, working closely with various teams to enhance operational efficiency.
Compliance and Process Improvement:
- Ensure all activities are carried out in compliance with Continuing Airworthiness (CA) requirements, approved data, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance technical support operations, streamline workflows, and optimise system performance.
Safety and Risk Management:
- Support safety management initiatives related to aircraft systems and AGE, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and regulatory standards.
- Lead risk assessments, identify potential hazards, and implement mitigation strategies to reduce operational risks.
RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION
Essential
- Have extensive proven post qualification practical maintenance experience supported by formal recorded OR extensive proven experience in relevant CA or maintenance related
- Do you have substantial proven Typhoon experience either as Technical Services Supervisor OR Maintenance Senior Supervisor (3rd signature holder with Typhoon Q course)
- Able to describe or demonstrate a Familiar level of knowledge of Continuing Airworthiness, the aircraft types managed and the aircraft maintenance environment.
- A recognised qualified to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC in a relevant technical discipline, or Part 66 Category C qualified, or National civilian / military equivalent and successful completion of a recognised national aircraft maintenance traineeship / apprenticeship, or suitable equivalent accepted to M&CA.
- Strong knowledge of aircraft systems, AGE, and associated support products, with experience in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.
- Fluent in English, with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desirable
- Experience in managing Technical Requests (TRs) and using systems such as TeamCentre for query resolution.
- Should have and be able to demonstrate sound oral and written two-way communication skills with the ability to be tactful, discreet and confident in dealing with people at all levels.
- Should be able to work on their own initiative to resolve technical issues.
- Should have broad aerospace and defence company / industry knowledge. Computer literate with a sound understanding of the Microsoft Office suite.
RECRUITMENT
Essential:
- Able to demonstrate a Practitioner level of skills in Technical Services and Technical Instructions management skills.
- A proven ability to supervise personnel in a CA environment.
- A Practitioner level of knowledge of the Typhoon platform, AGE and related support equipment.
Desirable:
- Experience of BAESSA and Typhoon Part M/Part 145 operations.
- Knowledge of Technical Request/Query (TR/TQ) process & Teamcentre PLM
