Role Description:

We have an exciting leadership opportunity for a Shift Superintendent within our Surface Ships team in Osborne, SA for afternoon and night shifts.

Reporting to Trades manager Capability (Structural), the Shift Superintendent is responsible for organising supervisors in different streams, subcontractors and trades resources to complete activities and tasks for specific projects. It will ensure all activities associated with the manufacture, production and assembly of components are produced in the most cost-effective way, whist maintaining an efficient use of resources and meeting all safety, design, quality and budget requirements.

Based at Osborne Shipyard, this is a permanent full-time salaried role offering a 9-day fortnight. Note, due to the nature of the role, full-time on-site attendance and shift work is a requirement.

Core Duties:

  • Manage daily shift operations to support production, maintenance activities and toolstore operations
  • Plan, manage and execute the delivery of production outputs to the required standard, as agreed with stakeholders
  • Improve the Production team capability, by identifying and developing team members to take up future leadership roles
  • Provide reports on production activities, including progress against plans, and cost performance reporting
  • Coordinate work activities, facilitate running of meetings, control activities of teams, provide training and use of work instructions, procedures, work steps and work orders
  • Provide operational oversight and support to maintenance teams within designated areas.
  • Ensure all shift services are delivered in line with the production schedule and operational priorities and provide feedback to build strategy and propose any changes for improvement
  • Monitor and manage safety, incidents, environmental compliance, costs, performance and work backlogs.
  • Act within approved delegations of authority, including decision-making on shift and assist Resource planning for the team
  • Complete and control permits, acting as Permit Authority when required.
  • Manage and maintain work orders in accordance with company requirements and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with the Safety Health and Environment (SHE) Management System, mitigating risks and improving overall SHE performance

About You

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering shipyard services and supervision
  • Experience in the supervision of large complex engineering and construction products related to materials, fabrication, welding, and inspection and testing
  • Demonstrated good communication skills with ability to interact effectively with colleagues within and outside the immediate team
  • A strong commitment to safe work practices with an ability to motivate individual and team across a number of business areas to shape and implement business requirements
  • Trade qualification and appropriate licenses is desirable
