Job Title: Senior SHE Advisor (Audit and Assurance) Environment

Location: Barrow-in-Furness – Onsite

Salary: Competitive

What you’ll be doing:

  • Conducting independent audits and inspections across the Barrow Site in order to confirm compliance with legal requirements and other requirements as specified in the HS & E policies, the SHEMS and ISO standards 14001 & 45001 with a particular emphasis on ISO 14001 and Environmental compliance and performance
  • Ensuring audits/inspections are planned, conducted and reported in accordance with internal procedures
  • Providing proactive and timely advice/support to enable shortfalls identified to be actioned appropriately
  • Positively engaging with all stakeholders including landlord/tenants, Environmental permit owners, functional leads, regulators, contractors, and customers to ensure audit and inspection interventions are effective
  • Operating to the highest standards and integrity in the application of internal procedures and processes through the Environmental management system
  • Supporting audits/inspections conducted by external 3rd parties e.g. EA/Local Authority/HSE/ONR/LRQA
  • Supporting the development and embedding of an improved culture within the Submarines business and supporting the SHE improvement programme
  • Supporting the delivery of applicable aspects of the Safety, Health and Environmental Strategy
  • Delivering detailed audit and inspection reports at the Barrow site and at other locations as the programme and the scope of the management system demands

Your skills and experiences:

Essential

  • IEMA certificate
  • IEMA diploma or equivalent NVQ Level 6 in Environmental discipline or a preparedness to work towards it
  • The ability to interpret and apply policy, regulations, internal procedures and a comprehensive understanding of ISO 14001 – Environmental Management Systems
  • Trained internal auditor or can demonstrate relevant experience of conducting internal audits/inspections
  • Broad understanding of Environmental issues such as climate change, environmental sustainability, carbon net zero and environmental permitting

Desirable

  • Experience gained in working in roles directly supporting business areas e.g. Operational SHE and/or working in a relevant business role
  • NEBOSH certificate, diploma or NVQ L6
  • The ability to interpret and apply regulations, internal procedures and experience of working to ISO 45001 & ISO 9001
  • Critical evaluation skills and ability to apply and develop environmental audit tools and techniques
