Role Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a mechanical engineer to join our Hunter Class Frigate Program.

You will be responsible for working within the team on mechanical auxiliary systems, specifically on auxiliary piping. As a senior member of the team, you will play a mentoring role of other engineers, providing guidance and support with tasks.

Core Duties:

  • Developing mechanical auxiliary system equipment to meet an established set of requirements, including participating in design reviews
  • Developing optimised Mechanical Auxiliary system and/or equipment detail designs and present the designs in design reviews
  • Supporting the translation of the Mechanical Auxiliary system and/or equipment design into a manufacturable solution and incorporate changes as required
  • Undertaking the integration and validation of the Mechanical Auxiliary system and/or equipment design including contributing to the integration and validation plans and reports
  • Supporting Mechanical Auxiliary systems and/or equipment qualification activities to ensure that the product meets all requirements including safety and regulatory requirements
  • Proactively identify potential risks in design integration and delivery, providing actionable recommendations to mitigate delays
  • Ensure designs align with applicable Australian regulations, IMO conventions and customer requirements
  • Assess hazards to ensure safety and environmental risks have been minimised SFARP
  • When required, act as the primary point of contact for suppliers, ensuring contract obligations are met in alignment with project milestones
  • Foster strong relationships while maintaining accountability to deadlines and quality expectations
  • Utilise design and simulation software (e.g., AutoCAD, FORAN, FluidFlow) for design and modelling of fluid transfer systems
  • Provide technical assistance to suppliers and Production, either remotely or in person as required, during integration and testing phases
  • Attend the Osborne shipyard and supplier sites as needed to oversee design implementation, testing, and production

Essential Skills:

  • A strong background in the design, maintenance, and troubleshooting of piping and/or fluid transfer systems
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic or Aeronautical Engineering
  • Experience in maritime may be considered suitable in lieu of a degree
  • Experience to be gained in developing mechanical designs, participation in design reviews, undertaking typical design analyses and implementation of solutions, their integration, validation and qualification testing
  • Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain
  • Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
