Job Title: Senior Engineer – Warship Engineering

Location: Scotstoun, Glasgow; Filton, Bristol; or Broad Oak, Portsmouth. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Up to £50,000 depending on qualifications and experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Resolving a range of engineering issues and problems, compiling technical reports, drawings and accompanying presentations as required by the role

  • Managing customer requirements throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring needs are understood and translated into clear, actionable design objectives

  • Engaging in the peer review of outputs to ensure accuracy and completeness, adhering to established guidelines for checking and verification

  • Collaborating with the wider engineering team to support the production, maintenance and status reporting of bid documentation and processes.

  • Developing designs of flight decks, hangars, magazines and supporting compartments from an “initial concept” level of maturity to greater levels of maturity as deemed appropriate

  • Integrating vulnerability reducing design features, including shock mitigation and ballistic/blast protection into future concept ship design

Your skills and experiences:

  • Demonstrated knowledge in warship engineering including some, not necessarily all, of the following sub-disciplines (operability, Adaptability, Susceptibility, Vulnerability, Recoverability, or Aviation)

  • Familiarity with Defence Standard 00-133 and its application to naval ship design and integration processes

  • Understanding of compartment design and sizing

  • Proven experience in technical report writing, including sourcing, reading, and interpreting complex engineering standards and documentation

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-engineering audiences

Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution.

Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation.

Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The Naval Ships Future Business and Technology Engineering team:

As a Senior Warship Engineer you will be responsible for a defined range of activities, namely generating engineering outputs for concept ship designs, doing so in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements, whilst also supplying advice and support to designers, operations and other functions and ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and service requirements.

The BAE Systems Naval Ships Future Business & Technology (FB&T) Engineering team is responsible for developing concept phase naval ship designs and engineering delivery solutions to compete for future Royal Navy and overseas naval ship design and build opportunities. You would be reporting to the Principal Engineer, and we will support your continuous professional development through clear paths for professional growth and development across exciting projects.
