Job Description

Job Title: Senior Engineer – Systems Engineering (Integration, Verification & Validation)

Location: Barrow-in-Furness – Onsite

Salary: Competitive

What you’ll be doing

  • You will work closely with internal system integration teams, Combat Systems groups, Operations teams, and (later in the programme) MOD and ship staff, to support successful delivery
  • You will also develop and maintain test strategies and test procedures for combat systems, ensuring integration, verification, and validation activities are clearly defined
  • You will be mentoring and supporting testing activities, bringing combat systems to life through structured test execution and fault investigation
  • You’ll support the integration of combat system equipment onboard platforms, ensuring systems are brought to build state safely and effectively
  • You will produce clear, practical installation and test documentation to be followed onboard the platform during equipment installation and trials
  • You’ll be contributing to system readiness and acceptance activities, supporting trials, defect resolution, and continuous improvement of integration approaches

Your skills and experiences

Essential:

  • Experience with the installation, configuration, and testing of Category 3 systems and equipment
  • Practical involvement in testing and trial activities, including preparation, execution, and follow-up
  • Fault investigation and resolution skills within multi-faceted systems
  • HNC in an Engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience gained in a similar environment

Desirable:

  • Background in defence, naval, or IT environments
  • Experience in commissioning activities, particularly within advanced or safety-critical systems

The Combat Systems – Dreadnought Build and Integration Team:

The team supports the delivery of multi-faceted combat system capability through integration, testing and trials activity. The team carries out onboard system integration, develops and executes test scripts, supports system integration testing and produces trials documentation to ensure equipment performs as intended.

Working closely with internal system integration teams, combat systems groups and operational partners, the team also supports equipment modifications onboard as programmes evolve. As the build phase progresses, they engage with MOD stakeholders and ship staff to support integration and operational readiness. With a growing team and clear opportunities for progression, this is a dynamic environment offering exposure to highly detailed systems and long-term career development.
