Job Description

Job Title: Senior Engineer – Pressure Systems

Location: Barrow-in-Furness. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this role

Salary: £42,215+ depending on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Review design proposals from external contractors and consultants for new and refurbished pressure systems installations to ensure compliance with current legislation, regulations and site standards.
  • Typical list of pressure systems encountered on site:

-Wet and Superheated Steam Systems

-Industrial process gases, i.e. Argon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Propane etc

-Natural Gas

-Low and High Pressure Compressed Air systems

-Mains water, Demineralised water

-Hydraulic systems

  • Provide advice/guidance/recommendations to the wider business on pressure system issues
  • Preparation of technical reports and documentation to support new pressure system installations on site
  • Define requirements for pressure systems in conjunction with end users
  • Support Principal Engineers with the production and update of site engineering standards for pressure systems
  • Ensure that all new and modified assets are compliant with relevant current standards and meet stakeholder requirements
  • Assist project teams to review installations and commissioning of new and modified assets where discipline knowledge is required

Your skills and experiences:

  • HNC/HND qualified in mechanical engineering
  • Understanding of Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) and other British and European standards covering pressure systems
  • Registered with an engineering professional institute and working towards chartered status
  • Around 5 to 10 years design or installation experience working with pressure systems
  • Basic IT skills for working with MS Office software such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to read piped services technical drawings including schematics

The Site Specialist Engineering team:

As Senior Engineer – Pressure systems you will be joining a multi-discipline team comprising suitably qualified and experienced personnel (SQEP) in Electrical, Mechanical and Civil/Structural disciplines. The main purpose of the team is to set site engineering standards and requirements for equipment/systems/facilities in accordance with legislation and process. You will be working under the direction of a Principal Engineer on a varied workload including involvement with a number of new buildings being built as part of the Shipyard expansion. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
