Job Description

Job Title: Senior Engineer (Operating Documentation)

Location: Barrow-in-Furness or Filton. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Up to £46,000 dependant on experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Constructing a suite of procedural documents for both current in-build and future classes of UK Submarines to enable safe operation of the submarine, including all systems and equipment, primary & secondary propulsion, ship, and combat systems, weapons, hotel services and emergency operations
  • Interpreting technical engineering information, e.g. schematics, system diagrams and equipment manuals
  • Liaising with stakeholders to resolve issues and risks associated with procedural documentation
  • Administrative Technical Documentation functions to maintain records within the Technical Documentation department and facilitate Technical Documentation activities
  • Evaluating the impact of Engineering Change on support deliverables for systems and equipment
  • Presenting finished documentation for approval and authorisation at Technical and Process Review Groups
  • Participate and contribute to the challenge of transitioning from Hard Copy to electronic and interactive documentation suites

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Background working with Submarines/Marine systems
  • Experience of data interrogation and good analytical skills
  • Experience in interpreting various sources of design, engineering, procedural and OEM information to produce viable Operating Information
  • Use of computerised systems to collect, summarise, analyse, input or extract data, maintaining own capabilities in use of software programs, and ensure data is safely and accurately recorded and stored. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Siemens Teamcenter

Desirable:

  • Experience of using or creating technical publications
  • HNC / HND / equivalent or higher in a suitable discipline
  • Understanding of Integrated Logistic Support processes

The Support Services Engineering Team:

The role will enable you to gain an in depth understanding about how submarines operate and offer the chance to deal with all aspects of the submarine programme. The role deals with a wide range of stakeholders offering the chance to engage on many different levels and aspects of submarine design and so enable the author to produce a high standard of documentation for use by the Royal Navy. You will accumulate a substantial level of systems’ operation knowledge, which will enhance the understanding of UK submarines. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
