Job Title: Safety Engineer
Location: Samlesbury. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.
Salary: £47,683- £52,426 depending on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
- Assessment of qualification and verification evidence:
- On top of existing baselines
- For new baselines being introduced
- Development and maintenance of new and existing safety documentation (Hazard Assessment Summary Reports, Safety Engineering Memos, Safety Justification Reports, Change Request statements)
- Carrying out safety assessment of new and emerging safety issues within BAES areas of design responsibility
- Performing Fault tree analysis/ Zonal Hazard Analysis (ZHA) within BAES areas of design responsibility
- Carrying out safety assessment of new and emerging safety issues within BAES areas of design responsibility
- Collating and coordinating Hazards maturity for endorsement with associated control evidence
- Safety reporting to the industrial partners and customers including; support to System Safety Group (SSG) and Safety Working Group (SWG) activities and the Coordination of the Project Safety Committee (PSC), and support Safety Compliance Assurance Review (SCAR) & Hazard Reviews
- Supporting the review of supplier and System documentation, (FMECA, SRM, LCM documentation)
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant STEM subject (Engineering/ Physics/ Maths/ Science)
- Demonstrable knowledge of the system / software engineering lifecycle
- Understanding of relevant engineering standards (MIL-STD-882)
- Willing to Travel Internationally
- Communication skills as customer interface for Safety
Desirable:
- Experience authoring safety Documentation or technical reports with knowledge of Safety Management Plans
- Experience in an aircraft systems safety role or a support engineering safety role

The team:
The Safety Team is a small team involved in assessing Safety issues across the F-35 and AV-8B platform, we are focal point for all safety issues. This includes communicating with SMEs and TAs, Preliminary Hazard Assessments, Safety Risk Assessments, Hazard Reviews, Running a monthly Product Safety Committee etc. The Safety Team feed directly into the Assistance Chief Engineer and Director/Chief Engineer, providing an excellent learning opportunity from discussions held and exposure to the senior stakeholder world.
