About the OPPORTUNITY
We have a unique opportunity for a Radiation Safety Officer/Engineer to join the Combat System Integration – Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT). This key position will be situated at Osborne, Adelaide and will be offered on a permanent fulltime basis.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, including working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
The Combat System Integration – Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT) support the Royal Australian Navy’s surface fleet while strengthening Australia’s sovereign combat systems capability. This collaboration drives cost-effective, agile solutions and advances continuous naval shipbuilding. The CSI-IPT team design, integrate, test, and deliver the Hunter-class frigates’ integrated combat system and the Hobart-class destroyers’ major combat systems upgrade.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support the development maintenance of plans and processes related to Radiation Hazard (RADHAZ) Surveys and RADHAZ management of combat systems emitters (including ionising radiation, non-ionising radiation, and laser emissions)
- Execute the management of Radiation Hazard (RADHAZ) controls and zones in accordance with the RADHAZ management plan, supporting test and trial activities
- Ensure the program’s obligations of the Defence Radiation Safety Manual (DSRM) are met, assuring the safety of personnel and the environment
- Act as the point of contact for RADHAZ management coordination and RADHAZ activities, establishing good relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Provide RADHAZ awareness training, drive culture of RADHAZ safety best practice, efficiency and continuous improvement
- Conduct routine RADHAZ safety inspections and undertake RADHAZ acceptance testing
- Identify and investigate RADHAZ problems and risks, formulate strategies for their resolution
About YOU
- Product safety engineering or radiation hazard (RADHAZ) experience – Technical experience in other engineering disciplines will also be considered
- A relevant technical qualification, good problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Self-motivation and resiliency, the ability to navigate through uncertainty and create processes
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and develop effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders
- Whilst not essential, RADHAZ experience or defence industry experience, will be highly regarded
