Role Description:

The Quality Control Blast and Paint Inspector is responsible for ensuring blast and paint activities comply with customer, contractual, regulatory and organisational requirements. Working closely with production teams, suppliers and customers, this role provides quality assurance and quality control support throughout inspection, coating and preservation activities to ensure products and services meet required standards.

The role provides oversight of blast and paint activities, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, specifications and approved procedures. It supports the identification and resolution of non-conformances, facilitates continuous improvement initiatives, and contributes to the delivery of high-quality outcomes by minimising defects, rework and quality-related risks. Through effective inspection, monitoring and stakeholder engagement, the role supports the achievement of quality objectives and the successful delivery of compliant products and services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveillance, visual inspections and verification activities to ensure blast and paint work complies with drawings, specifications, standards and contractual requirements.
  • Gather objective evidence to verify products and services meet quality, customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Review quality documentation, inspection records, work packs and certification packages to ensure accuracy and customer acceptance.
  • Confirm required maintenance, inspection and testing activities have been completed in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Promote and apply quality standards, practices and the organisation’s code of conduct.
  • Provide quality guidance and support to production teams, suppliers and other stakeholders to foster a strong quality culture.
  • Deliver coaching, mentoring and informal training on workmanship standards, specifications and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure quality requirements are effectively integrated into project delivery.
  • Support quality planning, assurance, monitoring and compliance activities across blast and paint operations.
  • Liaise with customer and supplier quality representatives to address quality concerns and provide assurance.
  • Support the investigation of non-conformances, root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects, rework and process variation while improving operational performance.

Essential Skills:

  • Relevant trade qualification in a mechanical, fabrication, surface treatment, coatings or related discipline.
  • Certified Coating Inspector holding NACE CIP Level 2, or FROSIO Level 3, or an equivalent recognised coating inspection qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience in a Quality Technician, Quality Inspector or similar quality-focused role within a manufacturing, industrial, marine or defence environment.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications and geometric tolerances, with the ability to accurately interpret technical documentation.
  • Proven experience working within a Quality Management System and applying quality assurance principles in a production environment.
  • Sound understanding of quality assurance standards, quality management practices and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and Defence and Civil Technical Regulatory requirements.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with suppliers and customers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders to support compliance, quality improvement and business outcomes.
  • Defence security clearance, or eligibility to obtain and maintain the required clearance.
  • Eligibility to be cleared under International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
