Role Description:

We have a permanent full-time opportunity for a Project Manager – Operations to join our AUKUS Program. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager – Operations, you will lead project management activities across the Operations function, driving integrated planning, governance, readiness and stakeholder alignment as the program progresses through a critical mobilisation phase and prepares for delivery.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping program delivery, governance and operational readiness. Please note, regular after-hours availability is required for weekly engagement with BAE Systems UK counterparts.

Core Duties:

  • Lead integrated planning, scheduling, and resource coordination for work packages.
  • Maintain schedules aligned to program milestones, production readiness, and contractual commitments.
  • Monitor progress, identify risks and dependencies, and escalate issues as required.
  • Support governance and reporting cycles with accurate status updates and milestone tracking.
  • Ensure Project Management approach aligns with Lifecycle Management framework and BAES Australia policies.
  • Develop and collate bids and estimates.
  • Manage Control Account baselines, budget changes, and Contract Change Proposals.
  • Actively manage project risks, opportunities, and mitigation strategies
  • Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain action, issue, assumption, and decision logs to support delivery assurance.
  • Coordinate delivery of key contract deliverables to the customer.
  • Provide Project Management support for ad-hoc and emergent project activity.

Essential Skills:

  • Demonstrated project management experience within manufacturing, operations, engineering or other complex delivery environments. Defence experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong experience in project planning, scheduling, governance and risk management.
  • Ability to coordinate and integrate activities across multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and deliver outcomes in evolving environments.
  • Commercial acumen and sound business judgement.
  • Qualification in Project Management (desirable).
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Defence security.
  • Ability to successfully complete a Nuclear Mindset Assessment.

The AUKUS Team

In early 2024, the Australian Government selected BAE Systems and ASC Pty Ltd to build Australia’s new fleet of nuclear-powered submarines in a significant development in the AUKUS trilateral security pact between the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. This program will focus on developing advanced submarine capabilities, integrating cutting-edge technology, and fostering international cooperation among Australia, the UK, and the US.
