Job Description:
As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will provide technical leadership to the Systems, Tools and Technology team, overseeing task allocation through Jira and managing the maintenance of deployed hardware, software, and associated tools across the wider estate and projects. A key part of your role will involve understanding customer requirements and emerging technologies, then communicating how these innovations can be incorporated into existing or future products, services, and toolsets.
You will champion and apply core Systems Engineering and Software Engineering principles to ensure robust, efficient, and scalable solutions.
Core duties:
- Provide technical management and task allocation using Jira, maintaining the deployed Systems, Hardware and Software deployed across the MISC estate.
- Understand Customer Requirements and emergent Technologies and communicate how these can be applied to the existing or future Systems, Products, Services and Tools.
- Apply and champion the Systems Engineering and Software Engineering principles
- Lead System design, integration, test and deployment activities
Essential Skills:
- Good understanding and applied experience of the Engineering / System lifecycle
- Minimum qualifications – Higher Education in a STEM related subject
- Sound understanding of IP networks (protocols, switching & routing)
- Expert understanding of integration tools, and their application over the integration lifecycle;
- Good understanding of how synthetic environments support system integration
- An understanding of Software & Script development experience on Windows and Linux platforms
The Maritime Integration and Support Centre (MISC) Systems, Tools and Tech
The MISC is support facility for maritime integration, experimentation, demonstration and research for current and future technologies deployed across several Customers. This role will provide hands-on technical leadership and engineering guidance to a team of Engineers and wider stakeholders to develop Systems, Tools and Technologies at the Maritime Integration & Support Centre (MISC) located at Portsdown Technology Park.
