Job title: Principal Manufacturing Engineer – Propulsion & Gearbox

Location: Barrow-in-Furness or Huddersfield. The home site will be Barrow, but the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time on site in Huddersfield. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this role

Salary: £45,648 – £56,000

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead the design for manufacturing principals for the gearbox team
  • Driving embodiment of learning from experience – Continuous improvement
  • Develop strong relationships with our strategic manufacturing partner in Huddersfield to develop the manufacturing strategy and help influence the design of the SSNA gearbox
  • Work with Engineering and academia to develop manufacturing best practice and ensure there is a design solution that is producible
  • Manage workload scheduling, planning, personal performance, task management, delegation, activity delivering, configuration control stages and detailed gate reviews and governance of outputs prior to formal release

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Experience in Continuous Improvement – focusing on processes, fault finding, identifying improvements, creating and issuing updated, or new, Manufacturing Instructions and have the ability to challenge and improved way of working
  • Strong understanding of Manufacturing principles
  • Project Management experience
  • Ability to stakeholder manage and interface between the design authority and the manufacturing authority
  • Ability to analyse complex problems and identify critical issues
  • Educated to HNC level with extensive experience in Manufacturing Engineering or to an appropriate degree with some Manufacturing Engineering experience

Desirable:

  • Gearbox Manufacture or design experience from a Marine background

The Propulsion and Gearbox Manufacturing team:

As the Principal Manufacturing Engineer – Propulsion & Gearbox you will be part of a new Submarine programme. This position will provide you with a diverse role where no 2 days are the same and you will have the opportunity to work alongside all trades. There will be career development opportunities within the Manufacturing Engineering Function. We offer relocation support across all Submarine roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria
