Job Description

Job title: Warship Principal Engineer

Location: Bristol, Glasgow and Portsmouth. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this role

Salary: Up to £ 58,500 (depending on skills and experience)

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide mechanical/marine engineering knowledge to coordinate and deliver significant aspects of engineering activity within the business, namely pre-stage 0 (concept) engineering designs and Technology projects, to ensure objectives relating to future opportunities are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and cost

  • Provide input relevant to own specialist area to policy and strategy

  • Will not have a specific delegation of authority, but will be accountable for ensuring minimum standards for the discipline area are met

  • Will be required to lead a small team to collaboratively deliver the required artefacts assigned to Warship Engineering within Future Business & Technology

  • Liaise with Suitably qualified & experienced warship engineers within the wider Naval Ships Engineering function to ensure best practise and learning from experience are adopted

Your skills and experiences:

  • Experience in Warship Engineering, gained through substantial work in order to apply principles and concepts in a discipline or technical area

  • Depth of knowledge in some, not all, of the following; Operability, Adaptability, Susceptibility, Vulnerability, Recoverability, or Aviation.

  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and engage effectively in diverse operational contexts.

Applicants should ideally be Degree qualified or have equivalent experience, likely to be in a technology, engineering, science or IT related discipline.

Applicants should be a Chartered Engineer or hold another equivalent professional registration with a relevant institution.

Naval Ships Future Business and Technology Engineering Team:

As a Principal Warship Engineer you will undertake a defined range of activities, generating engineering outputs for concept ship designs, doing so in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements, supplying advice and support to designers, operations and other functions and ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and service requirements.

The BAE Systems Naval Ships Future Business & Technology (FB&T) Engineering team is responsible for developing naval ship designs and engineering delivery solutions to compete for future Royal Navy and overseas naval ship design and build opportunities.
