Core Duties:

  • Be the Technical Lead in Containerisation for SI programmes, guiding people as required and acting as the focal point for determining and reviewing technical solutions
  • Within programmes using the Shared Infrastructure (SI) Containerisation functionality, support and prepare specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in area of expertise to ensure all standards are maintained
  • Within programmes using the SI Containerisation functionality, carry out complex technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability
  • Oversee development, integration, testing and maintenance of the SI Containerisation solution to ensure that the solution meets customer requirements
  • Act as a point of contact with other internal teams, customers and/or suppliers on SI Containerisation engineering matters, to resolve complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives
  • Support the preparation of SI specific bids in area(s) of expertise to facilitate the development of the highest quality bids
  • Assign daily engineering tasks to the Containerisation Engineer to support efficient and safe operations

Essential Skills:

  • You will have extensive experience of system design/architecture of complex systems
  • You will have an understanding/experience of using, integrating, developing and enhancing a Containerisation solution based on business requirements (Kubernetes/RKE2 preferred, but other containerisation frameworks such as Docker acceptable for transferrable skills)
  • You will have the ability to operate in a large, complex multi-project environment in cross-functional, distributed teams
  • You will have strong analytical thinking to debug complex, distributed container issues
  • You will have demonstrated impactful communication skills (oral, written and presentation) in both formal and informal settings, articulating complex ideas to broad audiences

The team:

The Shared Infrastructure (SI) team supports the infrastructure solution for the Royal Navy across the Fleet supporting Ship’s Mission Systems. The SI team are currently developing the next generation of Infrastructure for all classes which will support the RNs move to a Hybrid Navy. This role specifically supports the definition of the SI Containerisation technical solution and its development across the platforms upon which this functionality is available.
