About the OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for a Planning Systems Lead to join our Hunter Class Frigate Program based at one of our SA-Osborne Naval Shipyard, VIC – Melbourne or WA – Henderson offices, reporting to the HCFP Project Planning Manager.

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.

You will be responsible for leading the proper use of the company Earned Value Management (EVM) System so that the project management team can adequately monitor and report on project cost, schedule progress and risk status. The Planning Systems Lead must maintain the goodwill of the Customer and company management, by ensuring that our established EVM processes are carried out to report and manage the project with timely, accurate EVM data.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Accountable for providing the required level of management, leadership and expert assistance towards delivering the project controls scope of work in support of the cost & schedule baseline, the effective use of project controls tool sets and EVM/project reporting as required by the project team
  • Manage the establishment of, and maintain, the Contract Work Breakdown Structure (CWBS), CWBS Dictionary & CWBS Index
  • Maintain a fully integrated Project Schedule and Cost Account detailed schedules
  • Provide expert assistance in the use of cost & schedule tools (Open Plan / Primavera / Microsoft Project, and Cobra)
  • Provide EVM project reporting and analysis data to the project team on a monthly basis
  • Perform project finance and contract related functions
  • Assist the Project Management Function with gaining and maintaining any Cost Schedule Control Systems Criteria (CSCSC) validation or project Cost Schedule Status Reporting (CSSR) accreditations
  • Provide business with CSA support through delegating team responsibilities and ensuring team is adequately resourced
  • In depth understanding of Project Management function and its interactions with other functions
  • Position works across multiple lines of business and multiple large projects

About YOU

  • Proven performance at a similar level or demonstrated prior experience/competence, or demonstrated performance and progression as a Senior Project Controller.
  • Ability to motivate individuals and teams across a number of business areas, to shape and implement business requirements
  • Ability to balance conflicting priorities to deliver against customer and business requirements, with appropriate stakeholder management
  • Ability to negotiate with and influence internal and/or external stakeholders in a way which generates business benefit whilst maintaining key relationships
  • Ability to use and adapt written and verbal communication skills to suit a variety of difference audiences is critical to this role
  • Intermediate MS Office skills, especially in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
  • Ability to obtain Australian Defence security clearance of Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) is required
