Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled Modelling & Simulation Engineer to join the Training System Support Centre (TSSC) DBGS team, supporting advanced F-35 training systems. The role involves creating, updating, and maintaining high-fidelity synthetic environment databases and 3D model libraries used within Full Mission Simulators and related training devices. Working with specialist modelling and simulation tools, you will integrate terrain, imagery, environmental data, and visual effects to ensure accurate and realistic training environments. You will also support testing, validation, and release activities, ensuring all database modifications meet operational and quality standards within a highly technical and collaborative aerospace environment.
Core duties:
- Design, develop, and maintain high-fidelity Multispectral Simulation Databases (MSDB) for F-35 Full Mission Simulators and associated training devices.
- Create and enhance realistic synthetic environments, including terrain, environmental features, 3D models, dynamic entities, and advanced visual/sensor effects using specialist modelling toolsets.
- Integrate and process complex geospatial datasets, including elevation data, imagery, and vector mapping features, within Common Database (CDB) architectures.
- Perform rigorous quality assurance, validation, and in-device testing to ensure all database modifications meet operational and training standards.
- Prepare, document, and release database modification kits, supporting updates to the Training System Support Centre (TSSC) baseline configuration.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams and TSSC personnel to ensure seamless integration across wider training system components.
- Contribute to the development of courseware media and visual assets using 3D modelling software and Adobe Creative Suite applications when project requirements allow.
Essential Skills:
- Previous experience within a Modelling & Simulation Engineering environment.
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Creative Suite applications.
- Experience using 3D modelling software to develop and produce OpenFlight models, ideally with Presagis Creator.
- Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial data tools, such as Global Mapper and ArcGIS.
- Understanding of IT security principles, with the ability to achieve CompTIA Security+ certification.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to deliver high-quality technical outputs in a collaborative engineering environment.
The Database Generation System (DBGS) Team:
You will join the Training System Support Centre (TSSC) as part of the specialist Database Generation System (DBGS) team, supporting advanced F-35 training capabilities. The team is responsible for developing and maintaining high-fidelity synthetic training environments used within Full Mission Simulators and associated training devices. Working in a highly collaborative and technically advanced environment, the DBGS team delivers realistic terrain, 3D models, environmental features, and visual effects that ensure training systems remain accurate, immersive, and operationally relevant for F-35/JSF aircrew.
