About the OPPORTUNITY

We have new opportunities for Mechanical (Machinist) Apprentices to join our Defence Delivery and Advanced Manufacturing team based at our Edinburgh Parks site in South Australia.

We are now accepting applications for our 2027 Apprenticeship Program, commencing in February. This is an exciting opportunity to begin your career in advanced manufacturing, working on complex defence projects and developing skills that are highly valued across industry. As a Mechanical (Machinist) Apprentice, you will gain practical, hands-on experience while completing a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Machining).

You will work alongside experienced tradespeople, learning the techniques, technologies and processes required to manufacture and maintain precision components and equipment within a world-class manufacturing environment.

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity that will develop your machining, engineering and problem-solving skills to become a versatile Mechanical Machinist tradesperson. Working in a modern manufacturing environment as part of a supportive team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Operating and working with modern machining equipment, manufacturing technologies and engineering systems.
  • Participating in preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Using workshop machinery and tools to manufacture and repair components to specification.
  • Interpreting technical drawings, work instructions and engineering documentation.
  • Applying health, safety and environmental procedures in the workplace.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across people, processes and systems.

About YOU

As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you will have:

  • An understanding of, or genuine interest in, a Mechanical Machinist career and the manufacturing industry.
  • The ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Behaviours that demonstrate integrity, respect and accountability.
  • A positive attitude and enthusiasm to learn, grow and develop in your chosen trade.
  • The initiative to solve problems and proactively engage in workplace tasks.
  • A demonstrated interest in engineering, manufacturing or trades-related activities.

We believe in hiring for potential, and we understand that some candidates may hesitate if they do not meet every requirement. If this opportunity interests you, we encourage you to apply.

About US

You will be joining a workplace that genuinely cares about your wellbeing. Our people are diverse, and we value the different perspectives and experiences they bring. We know that an inclusive culture that fosters a sense of belonging enables everyone to contribute their best and achieve their full potential. As Australia’s largest defence company operating in a rapidly growing sector, you will be connected to a global team and encouraged to explore where your career might take you. Whether your path is traditional or something less conventional, there are Infinite Possibilities for you at BAE Systems Australia. We welcome applications from all people regardless of sex, gender identity, race, ethnicity, disability, pregnancy, age or lived experience, and strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
