Job Description:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Engineer to join the FCAS Synthetics Team, playing a key role in shaping the future of synthetic environments and digital engineering. This team is central to the FCAS vision, enabling enterprise-wide alignment of approaches, reducing risk in future synthetic use, and supporting faster, more confident design decisions. By minimising physical testing, the role helps reduce costs and timelines while driving innovation in digital engineering and simulation. As part of a growing Synthetics team within the Digital Engineering workstream, you will collaborate closely with stakeholders across GCAP and contribute to advancing cutting-edge capabilities in synthetic environments.

Core duties:

  • Develop and Run Synthetic Fighter Jet Testing Environment
  • Develop and Run Pilot-In-The-Loop Simulator for Fighter Jets along with Integrate and Test Models into Simulation Environment
  • Run and Fly the Simulators, tuning and feedback about their performance, and supporting pilot test sessions
  • Enabling early model integration to increase confidence in designs and reduce risk as we progress through the development lifecycle
  • Supporting test & evaluation, certification, and qualification by reducing reliance on physical testing, using models and simulations to generate evidence
  • Delivering a synthetic integration capability using a Model-Driven Simulation approach to support the FCAS programme through-life

Essential Skills:

  • Experience with functional programming languages and MBSE toolsets and techniques
  • Strong background in Engineering, Physics, Maths, or Computer Science
  • Determined, independent, and methodical approach to solving complex engineering challenges
  • Excellent ability to discuss and communicate technical concepts clearly
  • HND or degree in a STEM subject, or equivalent industry experience

The FCAS Synthetics Team:

You’ll be joining the FCAS Synthetics Team within the Digital Engineering workstream, a small but highly impactful group driving the future of synthetic environments. The team acts as an enabler across GCAP, supporting stakeholders by aligning approaches, reducing risk, and accelerating development through digital engineering and simulation. Currently led by Tom, the Synthetics team is a close-knit unit of four, with two new vacancies, and sits within a wider digital engineering capability of around 20 people. This role offers the chance to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment, contributing directly to innovation, efficiency, and confidence in complex designs across the programme.
