BAE Systems are recruiting for our Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) program. Our workforce built and now lead the sustainment and upgrade of the Royal Australian Navy’s three Hobart class air warfare destroyers – HMAS Hobart, HMAS Brisbane, and HMAS Sydney.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We have exciting vacancy for a Hull & Deck Technician to join the DCE program’s Test and Commissioning team on a permanent full-time basis.
Reporting to the Lead Hull & Deck Technician, you will be responsible for supporting the installation, set to work (STW), testing, commissioning, and maintenance of hull and deck equipment, playing a vital role in ensuring the ongoing operational readiness of the Royal Australian Navy’s Destroyer fleet.
Based at our Osborne Naval Shipyard in Adelaide, we offer flexible work options, including hybrid arrangements and a 9-day fortnight to help you balance work and life.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set to work, test, integrate and commission hull and deck equipment.
- Development and preparation of accurate technical documentation.
- Provide expert technical and hands on services to projects.
- Provide input to planning and maintenance of schedules.
- Assist in the construction, testing and acceptance of systems.
- Defect analysis, resolution and provision of detailed technical reports.
- Contribute to the analysis of complex technical problems to create solutions where precedent may not exist.
- Make decisions and facilitate problem-solving guided by policies, procedures and plans
- Work with minimum supervision, manage own time to address competing task priorities
- Carry out isolations of ships systems and writing/reviewing risk assessments.
- Attend training where required to upskill and develop
ABOUT YOU
- Hold Certificate 3 Engineering – Mechanical trade (or higher)
- Strong experience in hydraulics maintenance and troubleshooting
- Significant post-trade experience in a complex production environment
- Strong experience in mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure
- Ability to effectively communicate with employees and customers at all levels
- Displays integrity, technical knowledge, objectivity, acceptance of responsibility and maturity
- Continuously improve own practices whilst improving safety on the worksite
- Self-motivated and proactive to support working autonomously
