Job title: Graduate Submarines Stealth Engineer

Location: Barrow (Cumbria). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – however for this role you will be expected to attend your site 3-5 days per week.

Salary: £34,000 Per Annum + £2,000 Welcome Bonus

Role description

The Stealth Engineering department is responsible for the assessment, management and reduction of submarine signatures throughout the design, build and in-service phases of the submarine lifecycle. The department comprises specialist teams working across vibration, airborne noise, fluid-borne noise, electromagnetics and other non-acoustic signatures. During the Graduate Scheme, you will have the opportunity to rotate through a range of teams, gaining experience in both test and modelling environments while developing a broad understanding of the Stealth discipline. You will work alongside experienced engineers, supporting the delivery of advanced submarine capability.

Core Duties

  • Support noise and vibration assessments of submarine systems, equipment and platform performance during design, build and commissioning activities.
  • Support test cell and specialist facility evaluations, including test rig design, test execution, data collection and analysis of results.
  • Undertake modelling and predictive analysis activities using engineering techniques and tools such as FEA, CFD and SEA.
  • Work with subject matter experts to provide Stealth design guidance and support achievement of submarine signature requirements.
  • Support departmental research, technology and development programmes through participation in engineering projects and innovation activities.

Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.

Qualification requirements

As a minimum requirement you must have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2:2 Bachelor’s degree or a pass at Master’s level in the following subjects: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Maths or other similar STEM degree.

Start date: 6th September 2027 Length of contract: Permanent contract
