Job title: Graduate Submarines Nuclear Primary Build Organisation Engineer

Location: Barrow (Cumbria). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – however for this role you will be expected to attend your site 5 days per week.

Salary: £34,000 Per Annum + £2,000 Welcome Bonus

Role description

As a Graduate Submarines Nuclear Primary Build Organisation Engineer, you will develop a broad understanding of nuclear engineering and submarine build activities through structured placements across a variety of specialist teams. You will work alongside experienced engineers, gaining exposure to the processes, technologies and facilities that support the safe delivery of nuclear-powered submarines. Throughout the programme, you will build your technical knowledge, develop professional engineering skills and gain insight into different areas of the Primary Build Organisation, including new nuclear infrastructure projects. This role provides a strong foundation for a long-term career as a Nuclear Engineer within a complex and highly regulated engineering environment.

Core duties

  • Complete structured placements across a range of specialist Primary Build Organisation teams to develop a broad understanding of nuclear engineering activities.
  • Shadow experienced engineers and technical specialists to gain practical knowledge of engineering processes, systems and ways of working.
  • Develop technical, professional and problem-solving skills through on-the-job learning and project-based activities.
  • Support engineering tasks and contribute to the delivery of team objectives within assigned placements.
  • Gain experience within multiple nuclear-focused teams, including a placement with the New Nuclear Facilities team.
  • Work towards securing a permanent position within a specialist team, building the knowledge and experience required to become a Nuclear Engineer.

Please be aware that many roles at BAE Systems are subject to both security and export control restrictions. All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.

Qualification requirements

As a minimum requirement you must have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2:2 Bachelor’s degree or a pass at Master’s level in the following subjects: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a STEM subject is applicable.

Start date: 6th September 2027 Length of contract: Permanent contract
