  • Job Definition: The following statement is drawn from the UK-SPEC UK STANDARD FOR PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING COMPETENCE, THIRD EDITION, published by the UK Engineering Council. Where reference is made to ‘Incorporated Engineer’ or ‘Engineer (I) it should be read as covering an equivalent professional registration and qualification in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Incorporated Engineers maintain and manage applications of current and developing technology, and may undertake engineering design, development, manufacture, construction and operation.
  • Incorporated Engineers are able to demonstrate:
  • The theoretical knowledge to solve problems in developed technologies using well proven analytical techniques
  • Successful application of their knowledge to deliver engineering projects or services using established technologies and methods
  • Responsibility for project and financial planning and management together with some responsibility for leading and developing other professional staff
  • Effective interpersonal skills in communicating technical matters
  • Commitment to professional engineering values
  • Senior Designer; applies understanding of a range of design processes, tools, systems and techniques, and applies these to design or detail for assemblies, components or systems. Designs and develops solutions to common or well-articulated design situations, problems and issues.
  • Works under limited technical supervision.
  • Role Purpose: Applies understanding of a range of design processes, tools, systems and techniques, and applies these to design or detail for assemblies, components or systems. Designs and develops solutions to common or well-articulated design situations, problems and issues.
  • Context: Applies knowledge and experience of engineering design principles and practices to the design and detail or generation of product standards for engineering plant and systems. Competent in techniques, processes and tools for large scale detailed design of platforms, assemblies, systems and equipment installation.

Qualification requirements  EngTech status (or equivalent) plus relevant work based experience.
