FACILITIES MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Role Description:

We have an exciting opportunity reporting to the Shipyard Capability Manager, responsible for providing engineering services on various shipyard investment projects aimed at providing solutions to gaps in shipyard capability.

The role is specific to the Shipyard Facilities and Equipment and will focus on providing solutions to capability gaps within the Shipyard Facilities for Shipyard Operations. This will involve managing several investment projects with tasks such as defining operation’s needs in a requirements document, develop potential technical solutions to the issues and coordinating the design, implementation and commissioning of the new facilities.

The role will include things such as temporary services (temporary lighting, gas, electrical services, etc.) which will be installed on the Ship by the Support Services team during construction activities on an as required basis.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensure the provided Facilities are safe, compliant and fit for purpose to support the production of the Hunter Class Frigate (HCF) and Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) programs
  • Assisting in the review of Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) and liaising with the required delegated authorities (e.g. STA, TA, etc.) for handover of new facilities in accordance with the Facilities Turnover Plan
  • Assisting in the acceptance of the Osborne South Naval Shipyard from Australian Naval Infrastructure (ANI) on behalf of BAE and subsequent handover to Operations, and identifying and raising any non-compliance issues which may arise
  • Review work scopes of subcontract service agreements for compliance including but not limited to Automated Plant and Equipment, Cranes, Trade Waste Licence Requirements, Lifting Equipment, Pressure Vessels, Essential Safety Measures, Air-conditioning, Lifts, Building Site Maintenance, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Electrical test & tag
  • Being the Shipyard Infrastructure POC for Operations regarding gaps in shipyard capability
  • Project managing the delivery of investment projects from inception to completion being responsible for managing schedule, budget and project reporting of each allocated investment project
  • Coordinating design services (internal or external) to achieve solutions to shipyard capability gaps

KEY CRITERIA:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in defence or related industry
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical or similar discipline)
  • Previous experience in construction or engineering building services organisation (e.g. design, delivery, management)
  • Significant experience within a production engineering capacity
  • Proven experience in managing compliance and/or product safety
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage projects and collaborate effectively with a wide spectrum of internal and external customer
  • Good working experiences in more than one phase of the LCM, with sufficient experience of the total LCM process to enable a good understanding of adjacent phases and through life issues
  • Well-developed self-management skills and demonstrated ability to work under own initiative to deliver outputs to time, quality and cost
  • Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain
  • Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
