Job Title: Engineering Manager – Mechanical Designer (People Capability)

What you’ll be doing:

  • Manage the development of the Designer Strategic Workforce Plan whilst understanding demand and being able to define suitable supply solutions across multiple Programmes ensuring all Business SQEP requirements are met

  • Hold accountability for defining the execution of the Strategic supply solution, including Core, Contingent, Early Careers and Strategic Outsourcing/Offload

  • Develop and embed a robust skills assessment methodology to identify capability vulnerabilities

  • Identify the Early Careers numbers through the IPB to allow for future growth within the business, ensuring that we can continue to grow and nurture our own talent within the business

  • Manage the definition and execution of Make verses Buy decision in relation to required supply solutions

  • Manage the strategic leadership of resource growth via the implementation and development of novel cross-functional outsource partnerships involving multiple new suppliers. This includes the development of the Strategic Outsource & Offload supply solution ensuring we are protecting our own capability to design and build Nuclear Submarines

Your skills and experiences:

  • Hold a relevant STEM Degree or equivalent professional experience

  • Have gained a detailed and comprehensive understanding of designer principles, concepts, systems, theories and practices

  • Hold good knowledge of performance and specifications relating to development of the submarine platform

  • Have experience within engineering leadership and expertise related to complex process and application of toolset capability needed in enabling submarine design and manufacture

  • Familiarity with engineering and project management functions and a knowledge of project management techniques, relevant to small projects

The Design Capability team:

This is an exciting opportunity to be a key part in our engineering capability development within our Submarine division. By joining us in the team, you will be collaborating with various business units and key stakeholders externally and internally whilst working within the team to manage the development of strategic solutions, ensuring we are protecting our own capability to design and build Nuclear Submarines. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
