You’ll be trusted to play your part in delivering the advanced, technology-led defence, aerospace and security solutions of tomorrow, shaping a safer future, for all of us.

From the depths of the ocean, to the far reaches of space, there’s no limit to where a career at BAE Systems could take you.

What you’ll be doing:

You will be working with the Senior Scientist and the team to develop the next generation of polymer bonded explosives (PBXs) and associated manufacturing techniques, leading and organising your own project by undertaking research, developing formulations and processing expertise, and carrying out manufacturing and characterisation trials. In addition, you will be developing strategies to overcome these challenges and implementing them to benefit the business, while collaborating with other scientists and engineers, both within and outside the Energetics Team, to achieve project goals. You will be required to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, to ensure that all processing activities are carried out safely, in accordance with internal business processes, and in full compliance with relevant legislation.

Core duties:

  • You’ll have an undergraduate qualification in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Industrial experience in relevant area is also desirable, but not essential
  • You’ll have the ability to work within a close-knit team as well as independently, planning and managing own workload to safely deliver project objectives

  • You’ll have a keen desire to carry out practical activities for own and others’ projects and/or the wider Team’s day-to-day activities
  • You’ll have strong communication skills with ability to present data in a clear, concise manner and to produce scientific documents to a high standard
  • You’ll have a full UK driving licence

The team:
