Job Description

Job Title: Deputy Design Authority – Electronics

Location: Broad Oak. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Up to £60,100 dependent on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

The role holder will undertake some or all of the following tasks :-

  • Lead peer and design reviews of electrical and electronic sub-systems
  • Support engineers in detailed electronic circuit design including component selection, evaluation, simulation, schematic capture, and liaising with PCB design teams
  • Support engineers in the specification of bespoke procured hardware
  • Design verification using a combination of simulation, analysis, and test techniques, including support to EMC test houses and customer installations
  • Generate design documentation and technical reports
  • Interfacing with related disciplines
  • Support system integration activities
  • Apply knowledge and technical skills together with general engineering experience to solve technical issues as they arise
  • Ensure that the design complies with all appropriate safety legislation and key customer requirements
  • Provide support to other areas of the project and ensure that the appropriate level of peer review activity is undertaken

Your skills and experiences:

The role holder will have a degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering or strongly related subject, and have experience in one or more of the following areas :

  • Generating component level electronic designs for introduction into volume production
  • Digital design including processor interfacing, memory devices, PLD interfacing, UARTs, SPI, I2C, Ethernet etc
  • ADC/DAC devices and techniques
  • Analogue design including op-amps, transistor-level design, control loops and low noise techniques
  • High power techniques
  • Experience of design proving activities to ensure compliance against environmental requirements including EMC
  • Good appreciation of mechanical design
  • Substantial experience of design proving, integration, and defect resolution
  • Substantial experience of gathering of evidence to support acceptance, fitness for purpose, legislative requirements, and safety
  • A rigorous approach to the safety aspects associated with high power/high voltage equipment
  • Previous experience of operating in a defence or high safety integrity environment (preferred)

The Underwater Weapons Development team:

As Deputy Design Authority – Electronics, you will be responsible for over sight and support to design authorities of sub systems for an underwater weapon system. The role will provide you with the opportunity to join various complex development projects. You will see the full lifecycle and contribute through all phases.
