Composite Install Operator

BAE SYSTEMS MARITIME AUSTRALIA

HUNTER CLASS FRIGATE PROGRAM (HCFP)

PURPOSE OF JOB:

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Trade Assistant is responsible for the installation of acoustic systems. You will be responsible for activities related to acoustic installations within the Osborne Naval Shipyard.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Install components in accordance with approved drawings and specifications, ensuring the correct type, placement and fixing method are applied in line with the designated design engineering classification.
  • Maintain accurate records of work scope being undertaken and completed
  • Undertake tasks and duties as directed by Production Supervision and/or Trade Trainers within the limits of current competence.
  • Attend and successfully complete relevant on‐the‐job training as required
  • Maintain materials, tools and equipment in a safe and serviceable condition.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance teamwork, processes and operational effectiveness.
  • Comply with BAE Systems Australia policies, procedures and management practices.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality to safeguard and protect sensitive and commercially sensitive information.
  • Perform all work to a high standard of quality in accordance with applicable Engineering & Quality documents
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area, ensuring good housekeeping standards are consistently upheld.

About you;

  • Knowledge and experience with various steel surface preparation methods
  • Experience with composite materials, two-pack epoxy systems, mixing processes and application to substrates
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to follow and comply with workplace instructions, policies and procures.
  • Self-starter, with a continuous improvement mindset, and a solutions focused approach
  • Experience in vacuum bagging within an industrial environment, including the manufacturing or repair of composites
  • Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) Security Clearance Required – or eligibility to obtain one
  • Composite boat building experience is desirable but not essential
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Strong commitment to maintaining and promoting a safe work environment
  • Strong time management and attendance

Skills Required:-

  • High Risk – EWP / Forklift license required or desirable;
  • Accurate measuring
  • Marking out installation areas
  • Setting levels and alignments
  • Calculating material quantities
  • Carrying out a range of practical tasks including measuring, marking out, fitting, cutting, splicing, finishing & more.
