Job Title: Assistant Technical Authority

Location: Scotstoun or Filton. We offer flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role

Salary: Up to £58,500 commensurate with skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Working as a Lloyd’s Register Technical Lead liaising and coordinating with Lloyds submissions and returns
  • Collate and lead on the T26 Sea Trials Papership requirements
  • Support all Global Combat Ship programmes with Chief Engineer queries
  • Provide Subject Matter Expert support to T26 Hydromechanics
  • Provide Technical guidance to domain Technical Authorities on specific work packages
  • Be responsible for the delivery of the LESMS database at Vessel Acceptance Dates
  • Support the Platform and Wholeship Technical Authority at Integrated Programme Steering Group (IPSG), Weights Assurance Governance Group (WAGG), Quarterly Margins Review (QMR) and Mission Bay Working Group (MBWG), deputising as required

Your Skills and Experiences

Essential:

  • Degree qualified in a STEM related discipline
  • Experience in Hydromechanics Naval Architecture
  • Previous experience in an Engineering Design role

Applicants should ideally be Degree qualified or have equivalent experience, likely to be in a technology, engineering, science or IT related discipline.

Applicants should be a Chartered Engineer or hold another equivalent professional registration with a relevant institution

Desirable:

  • Understanding of the roles of a TA and the TA organisation and how they co-ordinate with delivery teams
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise with stakeholders at various levels
  • Prior experience leading or managing a team

The Type 26 Technical Authority Team:

The Type 26 TA team, work for the Chief Engineer providing assurance that the design is compliant with legislation and meets the requirements of the customer and that the platform can be operated safely.

As the Assistant Wholeship TA you will be required to work with all TAs across the Platform area but have very specific responsibilities for management of the Lloyds Register (LR) Clean Plan Approvals advising the Chief Engineer on progress at the monthly Senior CAM meeting, becoming the recognised Authority on LR rule sets and advising TAs and Design teams as required.

As the First of Class moves into the commissioning phase and preparation for Sea Trials the role will have a pivotal role in ensuring all design aspects are accurately and correctly documented enabling the award of the seaworthiness certificate that will enable the vessels to proceed on Sea Trials.
