Job Description

The Head of Commercial Finance [Customer & Commercial] will act as a senior finance leader and trusted business partner to the trading & marketing functions, driving financial performance, insight and decision‑making across these key commercial areas. The role requires someone who can have their finger on the pulse of day-to-day trade & performance and the ability to support rapid decision making to influence results. It blends current trading analysis and forward-looking commercial insights to drive topline growth and profitability while ensuring financial rigour, clarity and value creation. This role will lead a high‑performing finance team, influence senior stakeholders, and play a critical role in shaping commercial strategy across the business.

The Details

Business partnering & commercial strategy

  • Act as a strategic finance partner to senior leaders, providing robust financial insight to inform decision making.
  • Support the development and delivery of the Asos strategy.
  • Challenge and influence stakeholders constructively to optimise commercial outcomes.

Financial performance & insight

  • Own commercial trading performance, including all key trading KPIs.
  • Lead forecasting, budgeting and planning cycles for trading & marketing functions, ensuring clear links between strategy, performance and outcomes.
  • Deliver clear, forward-looking insights on trading performance and key business drivers.

Business planning & investment

  • Evaluate and support key trading & commercial initiatives, with quantifiable analysis and performance tracking post go-live.
  • Ensure appropriate governance and financial discipline around spend and investment decisions.

Leadership & team development

  • Foster a culture of ownership, curiosity, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and develop a high performing commercial finance team of 4 direct reports; broader mentorship across wider commercial finance function.
  • Build strong succession, capability and engagement across the team.

Process, controls & improvement

  • Ensure strong financial controls and governance across commercial finance activities.
  • Drive simplification, automation and continuous improvement in finance processes and reporting.
  • Ongoing improvements in leveraging AI tools and techniques (e.g. Automation and generative AI) to drive growth across the business.
  • Partner closely with FP&A to ensure consistency, accuracy and efficiencies.

Stakeholder management

  • Build trusted relationships with senior leaders across Commercial, Finance and wider business.
  • Represent Commercial Finance in senior forums, providing confident and credible input.
  • Act as a key interface between commercial teams and FP&A.
  • Supporting our culture by championing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion strategies.

About You

  • Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent).
  • Significant senior commercial finance experience in a fast‑paced retail/ecommerce organisation.
  • Key leadership role within finance organisation.
  • Proven experience partnering senior leaders and influencing at leadership level.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate financial insight into business action.
  • Experience leading and developing high performing finance teams.
  • Advanced financial modelling, forecasting and analytical skills.
  • Track record of supporting business change, transformation or growth initiatives.
