Job Description

APM Terminals

At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving — observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improving daily operations, join us and be a part of our journey.

At APMT Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement is driven by Lean principles, ensuring that every team member can develop their skills and advance their careers. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.

We are looking for a transformation agent who can lead, coach, and deploy Lean principles, elements, and behaviors across all functions within APM Terminals Management Morocco – Tangier Business Center. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience not only in implementing Lean tools, but also in applying Lean thinking in back-office environments, driving culture development, and strengthening structured problem-solving capabilities.

The APMT Business System, driven by the Global Lean Team, is at the core of each terminal’s daily work and challenges. Lean in APMT Management Morocco involves working closely with Heads of Functions and their teams to embed continuous improvement into everyday operations.

At the heart of Lean is an ongoing commitment to investing time and resources in developing our people — leveraging “all the brains in the game” and encouraging employees and leaders to work smarter, not harder. By continuously driving small improvements in daily activities and making bold strategic bets, we enhance performance and create lasting benefits for both the company and our people.

You will join a growing and diverse team where collaboration, mutual support, and shared accountability are key. We come from different backgrounds, value diversity, and share a passion for transforming our industry and business. We are motivated, innovative, curious, and grounded in Lean as our foundation. We work hard and have fun doing it.

This role requires strong drive and initiative. We are looking for someone who brings curiosity, integrity, and a collaborative leadership mindset. The position involves close collaboration with Global Functions and may require occasional regional support to ensure alignment and effective deployment of global initiatives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and deploy Lean and Flow methodologies across APM Terminals Management Morocco – Tangier Business Center.

  • Drive a strong Kaizen culture and mindset through robust Kaizen event execution, primarily targeting tangible and sustainable improvements in transactional processes and back-office procedures.

  • Lead people transition efforts, helping teams embrace change and strengthening change management practices, including the creation and execution of communication plans.

  • Build and sustain a stable Daily Management (DM) and Visual Management (VM) structure across all functions, enabling effective cross-functional performance management and establishing a robust closed-loop follow-up process.

  • Promote Lean behaviors and a high-quality A3 problem-solving mindset, developing business problem solvers across all teams and functions.

  • Provide structured problem-solving support and Lean/Flow coaching to teams.

  • Drive the implementation of Standardization and Deviations Management workstreams, integrating standardization (PDM) into local Lean practices.

  • Integrate the Flow project into Lean at each terminal and ensure adherence to Flow methodology while monitoring implementation effectiveness.

  • Foster strong collaboration between terminal Flow teams and the Global Flow team.

  • Develop local capabilities to drive and sustain Flow rollouts.

  • Train the APMT Management Morocco team on Lean awareness programs and specific Lean tools.

  • Support the development and continuous improvement of Lean training materials based on program evolution, participant feedback, and Lean maturity — especially for back-office functions.

  • Drive and support the full rollout of the TWI (Training Within Industry) program, including Job Instructions (JI), enhancing Lean maturity on site.

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a container terminal environment.

  • At least 3 years of experience working with Operating/Business Systems (OS/BS), Process Design (PD), Lean, Kaizen, and Standardization.

  • Strong practical knowledge of Lean tools and methodologies, including:

    • A3 Problem Solving

    • Kaizen

    • Daily Management & Visual Management

    • Value Stream Mapping (VSM)

    • Standard Work / Standard Process

    • 5S

    • Voice of Customer (VOC)

    • Hoshin Kanri

    • Value Selling

  • Experience in structured project management and business analysis across core processes (e.g., Order to Cash, Procure to Pay, Hire to Retire, Issue to Resolution).

  • Proven experience facilitating cross-functional teams and building participation, ownership, and accountability in transformation initiatives.

  • Experience working across cultures and functions in complex organizational environments.

  • Strong influencing, training, and coaching capabilities at all organizational levels, acting as a trusted business partner.

  • Experience in Change & Transition Management.

  • JI/JR training experience and strong business acumen.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • High ethical standards and professional integrity.

  • Well-respected within an organization — regarded as someone others want to learn from, listen to, and work with.

  • Self-motivated, driven by excellence, and committed to exceeding expectations.

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and/or Certified Lean Advanced Practitioner (Level 4) are considered strong advantages.

  • Lean and project management certifications from recognized institutions are a plus.

Reporting and Scope

  • Reports to: Head of Tangier Business Center

  • Scope: APM Terminals Management Morocco – Tangier Business Center and all associated functions/offices.

  • Regional interaction and support may be required to ensure alignment with global and headquarters processes.
