Job Description

APM Terminals

Reporting to the Head of Asset Management, this role leads site-wide maintenance operations to drive standardization, reliability, and cost discipline across power equipment, RTGs, and container-handling assets. It partners closely with Yard, Marine, Rail, and union leadership to break down silos, implement a structured PM cadence, and shift the organization from reactive to preventative and predictive maintenance—while steering the transition from gas-powered to electric equipment with rigorous safety, training, and change management. The position supervises foremen and mechanics, ensures OSHA/environmental compliance, leverages digital tools for real-time decision-making, captures true maintenance costs through disciplined work-order management, and optimizes vendor performance to maximize equipment availability. Requires an engineering degree, 5+ years in terminal M&R, and the agility to support a rotational, 24/7 operation.

  • A role supporting a 24/7 operation with balanced planning, autonomy, and operational ownership

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead site-wide maintenance operations across power equipment, RTGs, and container-handling assets to ensure reliability, standardization, and cost discipline

  • Drive the transition from reactive to preventative and predictive maintenance through structured PM cadence and process standardization

  • Supervise maintenance teams, including foremen and mechanics, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient execution of all repair and maintenance activities

  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders and union leadership to strengthen collaboration, align priorities, and improve workflows across terminal operations

  • Champion the transition from gas-powered to electric equipment, implementing new processes, safety standards, and training programs

  • Utilize digital tools and data insights to monitor equipment performance, track maintenance costs, and enable real-time operational decision-making

  • Manage vendor performance, procurement processes, and work-order systems to optimize cost, ensure accountability, and maximize equipment availability

What We Are Looking For:

  • Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a strong mindset of continuous improvement – someone who is naturally curious, committed to solving problems at the root, and driven to make things better every day

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in terminal maintenance and repair or heavy equipment maintenance environments

  • Strong knowledge of maintenance operations, including preventative and predictive maintenance strategies for industrial or port equipment

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a unionized environment, manage labor relations, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards (OSHA/environmental)

  • Ability to operate effectively in a rotational, 24/7 environment with strong adaptability and decision-making skills under changing conditions
