Hybrid working & Peterborough or Huntingdon office

Anglian Water offers a flexible approach, this role provides you with hybrid working. Depending on your location, you could be based anywhere within the region but with frequent travel to Peterborough and Huntingdon.

Help shape the future of water resilience in the East of England.

We’re looking for a forward-thinking Water Resources Lead to take a senior technical leadership role within our flagship Reservoirs Programme. This is a unique opportunity to lead the development and management of a critical technical work programme that underpins the future water supply for millions.

In this high-impact role, you'll be responsible for building a robust, evidence-based case to secure abstraction licences and other water resource-related requirements for the Fens and Lincolnshire Reservoirs—projects vital to the delivery of both our company and regional Water Resources Management Plans (WRMPs). Your work will be at the heart of shaping long-term water security across the region.

You’ll act as the key technical interface between strategic planning, water resources, and programme delivery teams, collaborating closely with internal and external partners including Cambridge Water, Water Resources East, and regulators such as Ofwat and the Environment Agency. Your leadership will ensure alignment across programmes, technical integrity in decision-making, and clear, effective communication with stakeholders.

If you're ready to influence nationally significant infrastructure, drive sustainability, and lead in one of the most ambitious water projects in the UK, this role is for you.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing Technical Leadership: Lead and coordinate the water resources technical interface across teams and partners to ensure successful delivery of the reservoirs programme aligned with company and regional Water Resources Management Plans (WRMPs).

  • Programme Development & Management: Develop and manage a robust programme of technical work, including modelling and environmental assessments, to secure abstraction licences. Oversee budgets, contracts, risk, and performance related to water resources.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal teams, external partners (including Cambridge Water and Water Resources East), and regulators such as Ofwat and the Environment Agency. Lead communication of technical matters and contribute to public consultation materials.

What does it take to be a Water Resources Lead?

  • Degree in Geography, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or a related field relevant to water resources planning.

  • Significant experience in water resources management.

  • Recognised project management qualification such as PRINCE2, MSP, or APM is desirable

  • Proven track record of effective project management, including financial and risk management.

  • Broad understanding of the regulatory and operational environment in the water sector.

  • Strong report writing skills for internal use, regulatory submissions, and public communications.

  • Membership of a relevant professional body; chartership is desirable.

  • Experience engaging with stakeholders and consultants on complex technical issues.

Core Skills

  • Exceptional stakeholder management and engagement.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong collaboration skills with proven delivery in multi-disciplinary teams.

As a valued employee, you’ll be entitled to:

  • Full private healthcare with no excess

  • 26 days leave, rising with service + Bank Holidays, with the option to swap Christmas and Easter holidays for those celebrated by your religion

  • A flexible working culture

  • Competitive pension scheme – we double-match your contributions up to 6%

  • Life Assurance at eight times your salary

  • Personal Accident cover – up to 5x your salary

  • Bonus Scheme

  • Lots of great discounts
