Be part of a pioneering project shaping the future of water supply in the East of England

Are you an experienced Project Manager looking for your next big challenge? This is your opportunity to lead a first-of-its-kind Advanced Water Recycling (AWR) project for Anglian Water — a high-profile, innovative £120m scheme that will play a critical role in tackling future water shortages.

As identified in our draft Water Resources Management Plan 2024, the East of England faces a significant challenge: by 2050, we expect to have 38% less water available for our customers. One of the key solutions is the development of an AWR plant in Colchester — and we need a confident, driven Project Manager to make it a success.

You’ll join a newly established team dedicated to developing ground breaking major infrastructure projects, including desalination and water recycling. Reporting to the Senior Programme Manager, you’ll lead the early-stage development of the Colchester AWR scheme, steering it through design, procurement, planning, and governance, while ensuring delivery is on time, on budget, and to the highest quality.

What you’ll be doing

As a Project Manager, you’ll play a central role in planning, managing, and developing this landmark project, including:

  • Leading the outline design and reference design phase

  • Ensuring site investigations /monitoring are carried out safely and within budget and programme

  • Developing the procurement strategy for the delivery phase and leading negotiations with the design & build contractor

  • Driving the planning and consenting activities

  • Overseeing the safe design, delivery, and testing of a demonstration plant, ensuring compliance with CDM

  • Developing project plans, schedules, and budgets with the PMO and commercial teams, while managing risks and opportunities

  • Collaborating with technical and environmental specialists to deliver high-quality work packages

  • Supporting stakeholder engagement and regulatory discussions alongside our dedicated Stakeholder team

  • Connecting with other Project Managers across major projects to share knowledge and support

Every day will bring variety, challenge, and impact. And when it’s complete, you’ll have delivered Anglian Water’s very first AWR project — a career-defining achievement.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience in project management within capital delivery or infrastructure.

  • Strong track record in managing budgets, programmes, and risks at early project stages.

  • Knowledge of NEC contracts and confidence working with consultants and contractors.

  • Knowledge and experience of CDM

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Overall, we’re looking for a proactive, organised, and resilient self-starter, ready to lead and embrace challenge.

Inclusion at Anglian Water:

This is your chance to work on some of the most innovative and impactful water projects in the UK. By joining our Programme Development team, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of water supply for millions of people across the East of England.
