Permanent, 37 hours per week
Location – Dawdon / Tanfield area

Alpheus (a wholly owned subsidiary of the Anglian Water Group), specialise in providing innovative water and wastewater asset management services tailored for commercial and industrial clients. The Mining Remediation Authority (MRA) exists to make mining areas safer and more environmentally secure by managing historic mining impacts, protecting communities, and enhancing the natural environment. It operates dozens of mine water treatment sites across Britain, which collectively treat over 122 billion litres of polluted mine water each year to prevent contaminants—such as iron—from entering rivers and aquifers, thereby protecting ecosystems, improving water quality, and even enabling opportunities such as low‑carbon heating and industrial water supply.

Reporting to the Contract Manager, this role will provide day to day leadership, oversight and management of the MRA operations, maintenance and administration.

You will be responsible for ensuring safe, effective, efficient and high quality work is delivered across the Northern Operations. Maintaining excellent customer relationships, managing budgets and resources, along with constantly achieving high standards of compliance, asset availability and site performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Line management of the North operations and maintenance delivery team, ensuring high standards are consistently achieved and delivered, whilst developing and enhancing the team’s skills and capabilities.
  • Responsible for contractor and supplier management, ensuring safe and efficient delivery of all contracted work
  • Work closely with the office based scheduling and administration teams to ensure work load is managed and suitably delivered on a priority basis
  • Identify and lead on continuous improvement strategies, ensuring that the safe operation, optimisation and sustainability of client’s sites are top priority
  • Enhance the reputation of Alpheus through proactive actions and professional customer interface
  • Proactively own Health & Safety across all sites, driving a proactive safety culture

What does it take to be successful?

  • Ideally educated to a degree level or equivalent in environmental, mechanical or electrical engineering
  • Experienced manager within an industrial / commercial water or waste water operations background
  • Demonstrable leadership and people management experience
  • Commercial experience managing and delivering commercial contracts, building commercial relationships, demonstrating commercial and business acumen
  • A strong commitment to Health & Safety
  • Experience in delivering standards and quality services with in-depth knowledge of operational processes, quality control, and performance management
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Strategic thinker with a focus on execution and results
